The last news I saw around fusion was a new record for energy out vs energy in. Does anyone know how this one compares on that scale? This article and the others I could find don't mention energy at all just temperature and time.

I don't think they have positive energy output with the EAST reactor right now. Looks like they're testing different aspects of it, and are focusing on achieving stable containment as their first goal.
I think that this news about fusion should always be taken with a grain of salt. Naturally, the advances made in these fields are interesting, but this type of news of how long they manage to keep the plasma stable is basically irrelevant, since they only depend on the energy invested and therefore correspond more to marketing reasons. At the moment when the energy gained is relevant, then we can speak of real advances. Until then it is nothing more than a larger version of the fusion reactor created by a teenager in a garage a few years ago, which incidentally works for an indefinite period of time. although also without producing net energy. https://www.foxnews.com/science/teen-builds-working-nuclear-fusion-reactor-in-memphis-home
Next time please link a scientific paper or a more neutral source.

MBFC is not a neutral fact checker. It itself has a neoliberal bias and holds many USAGM propaganda media outlets as decent or good.
Example of why this fact checking grift is a problem: https://reclaimthenet.org/facebook-says-fact-checks-are-opinion/
understandable but its on the same level as posting NPR or BBC. It might be more sensationalized but the underlying facts are the same.
