I think so, it's a good idea. But it's hard to enforce across an entire instance sadly, unless we get @rimu@piefed.social to implement some mandatory pronouns field that displays in your display name.

don't ask why I'm on this 20 day post, but this is a terrible idea. When I was an egg still discovering my gender, I hated feeling forced to give pronouns because I just wasn't sure what they were. It did not make me feel safer to be compelled to, quite the opposite. I enjoyed when it was optional or encouraged, but hated when it was mandatory.

Pronoun disclosure should always be voluntary, the coercive pronoun circles in leftist spaces I experienced as a trans person struggling with my gender were awful experiences - and ironically I was usually the only trans person in the room. Their trans-affirming practice was torturing the only trans person there.

Please don't pressure people to identify their gender or pronouns, it's not affirming for many of us and only makes us feel worse.

Do create a culture and context that makes it easy for voluntary disclosure, and be receptive to people who rely on that disclose for their gender to be seen and respected.

Second, though important to note many mobile clients don't support them properly.

Ive actually been meaning to finish testing on iOS to go alongside the android list to say which do / don't support it.

While I don't have an account on there yet. I was thinking about making an alt here but misogyny on the fediverse is everywhere - someone admitting they are a woman on here often just means them getting hostile replies. People may also not be entirely clear on their own pronouns.

I support this too. I know some clients only show the username and not the display name, but wygd?
