Meanwhile, in the Op-Ed section.

For Once, We Fight With an Equal Ally

As of Monday, Central Command reports that the United States had struck over 7,000 targets inside Iran. Israel, for its part, had carried out some 7,600 strikes, according to a representative of the Israeli military. This may be the first time since the Second World War that Washington has had an equal partner with which to share the burdens of war.

I also love how they frame it as if Israel is producing these additional weapons rather than buying them from the US. ๐Ÿคฃ

Buying them with US taxpayer money no less

US taxes can be used literally for anything other than providing social services for Americans.

It's a little of both. Israel is a major weapons manufacturer and exporter.

One of the more peculiar aspects of US/Israel relations is that they compete with one another in sale of military technology.

israel is the one making all of that military surveillance tech keeping tabs on every dissident throughout the world ๐Ÿฅฐ

Calling Israel a major manufacturer is overstating it a bit. Their overall industrial capacity is pretty small, and their military industry is not built for mass production. The stuff they export is largely surveillance tech and small arms. Their capacity to sustain a prolonged war of attrition is severely limited, which means they are very much reliant on the US here as opposed to being an equal partner.

Israel has surpassed UK as 7th-largest global arms exporter, report shows

Take that for what its worth.

One reason why they're trying to move up and steal other people's shit.

The end game here would make it as big as Texas.

I mean the UK can't even make steel on its own anymore, so not really a high bar to pass there. And as I noted above, what they produce also matters. The war with Iran is largely about missile production, and Israel doesn't really have much capacity to do that. And the whole greater Israel fantasy isn't going to help them in the current conflict. They need current industrial capacity which neither them nor the US appear to have. We already see that there are shortages of critical things like missile interceptors, and that's just after three weeks. The rate their stocks are being used up is completely unsustainable.

[โ€“] umbrella@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

how many interceptors do you think they have, and where could they source more on such a short notice?

[โ€“] yogthos@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 days ago

Difficult to say what they have left at this point. Given that there is now footage showing up of Iranian drones flying around emptied out US bases completely unchallenged, I'm guessing the problem is starting to get severe. Meanwhile, there is nowhere to get more interceptors. A large chunk of them has already been drained in Ukraine over the past four years, and US has been pulling them from allies that whole time. At this point there's not much left, and the US lacks the capacity to produce them in any significant numbers.
