Sure, it was great to be on a winning streak and an upward trajectory. But then you took everything they had to throw at you, suffered through a bunch of losses, kept on going when other folks woulda lost heart, and then you took out the tournament champion and let everybody know that you're STILL a force to be reckoned with. Somehow this win was a whole lot better than all the earlier wins.

Asakoryu slaps at Kinbozan's arms off the tachiai, then is able to circle and drive the bigger man out.

Oshoumi sees success off the first henka today.

Roga has the first throw attempt after the tachiai, and his sagari gets tangled in his right arm as he tries to bump Fujiryoga out. Fuji proves too powerful with his feet on the ropes, so Roga pivots and throws him down with an overarm throw.

The sagari goes flying again as Chiyoshoma immediately attacks Tokihayate's neck. Toki shucks him after getting driven back but Chiyo recovers and throws Toki off balance with an outside trip for a kirikaeshi win.

Tobizaru and Tamawashi have a slapping pushing battle, and the Monkey tries a couple of small kicks that don't land before locking up a right underarm on the belt. His next kick takes Tama's leg out enough to get him off balance and he stumbles across the ring before Tobi finishes the throw down tsukiotoshi.

Mitakeumi with a slow tachiai but still manages to control Ura's drive, then pushes him back to the bales. Ura circles but Mita is relentless and they go all the way across to the other side before Mita throws Ura, who manages to hang on for a moment upside down with a bent back before slipping off Mita's arm and hitting the deck. Mita's beltless throw picks up his KK.

Solid sumo from Nishikifuji, who grabs a handful of Shodai boob as he shoves him off the ring.

Oshoma pulls Fujiseun down but Fuji lands hard against Oshoma's knee, putting him on the clay himself. Looks like he's walking ok though.

Abi with the second henka. He has to follow it up with some circling but he throws Asanoyama off the ring.

Fujinokawa gets driven back but counters Hiradoumi with a big beltless throw, pivoting to throw Hira 180 behind himself.

Oho puts Yoshinofuji on the straw but Yoshi dodges and they separate. When they clash again Oho is on the edge but pivots and puts Yoshi down with a tsukiotoshi.

WMH is driven back but slaps Takanosho down and out at the edge as he dances on one foot.

Aonishiki with a false start against Kirishima, but on the 2nd go gets low with a left hand grip on the front of the belt. Kiri reaches down the back for a right hand grip and they circle a bit before Aoni rotates hard to his left as he pulls on the belt and gets Kiri's left knee to touch clay.

Hoshoryu gets double inside hands against Kotozakura, but comes up into a stalemate against the big ozeki. Koto drives and Hosho pivots to put Koto's foot on the straw. As Koto fights back Hosho goes for a throw but Koto uses the scramble to get his left hand inside. As Hosho goes for another throw Koto gets a position on Hosho's hip and crushes him down with an outside trip.

Hoshoryu's loss gives Kirishima the yusho.

Ura is such a joy. What was he trying to accomplish from this position? Pure instinct.
