I have dumb questions. What's going on with the SBC? And why is Rick Warren pushing so hard for women pastors when the SBC already fought this battle 50 years ago?

Not being an SBC guy, I couldn't answer, though I find it terribly interesting. It frustrates me no end that the de facto solution to every (Protestant) church conflict is to split.

But as an outsider who has had some really terrible experiences working with the SBC, I actually kinda hope this goes Warren's way; the denomination could do with a lot more gentleness and humility, which tend to be more present in women... (don't tell PP or Ciro I said this, lol. ;) )

We definitely need women to help us to be gentle, but I don't think circumventing scripture to accomplish that is the way to go.

I mean, I'd prefer they switch to a proper presbyterian polity, but I think that's even less likely...

Well I agree with you there.

So who would care to prognosticate on whether the great reddit blackout will have any effect? Will many people wind up staying away long-term?

Not immediately. But people will learn there are other things out there. And reddit will keep doing stupid things that anger their mods and users and eventually it'll wane.

Maybe not as dramatically as digg though
