Welcome to Cassette Futurism Lemmy and Mbin Community.

A place to share and discuss Cassette Futurism: media where the technology closely matches the computers and technology of the 70s and 80s.

Whether it's bright colors and geometric shapes, the tendency towards stark plainness, or the the lack of powerful computers and cell phones, Cassette Futurism includes: Cassettes, ROM chips, CRT displays, computers reminiscent of microcomputers like the Commodore 64, freestanding hi-fi systems, small LCD displays, and other analog technologies.

Wow, they even look cigarette-stained in the ad! Accurate!

To be fair, everything in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s came nicotine-stained right out of the box, it was the aesthetic. If you buy a late C3 Corvette or second-generation Camaro, they all come with the ghosts of their original owners, who all manifest as clouds of smoke with yellow teeth, wearing cheap faux suede jackets. To exorcise the car, you tell them a dirty joke, and they’ll laugh until they wheeze and cough themselves to their second deaths.

I still have a few carts for those. And I still have my 5200 all boxed up in my garage with controllers and power supply.

Buddy of mine had the 400. Who thought those keyboards were a good idea?! LOL, we had to mash every key to make it register.
