Welcome to Cassette Futurism Lemmy and Mbin Community.

A place to share and discuss Cassette Futurism: media where the technology closely matches the computers and technology of the 70s and 80s.

Whether it's bright colors and geometric shapes, the tendency towards stark plainness, or the the lack of powerful computers and cell phones, Cassette Futurism includes: Cassettes, ROM chips, CRT displays, computers reminiscent of microcomputers like the Commodore 64, freestanding hi-fi systems, small LCD displays, and other analog technologies.

Hi.
Today i post something different from usual. These props started as an exercise to push my design and then i decided to polish them.
The props are inspired by the incredible Sheng Lam.
Cheers

I have a hard time with this one, my mind want to understand how that tape works ?

I know of infinite loop like some 8 track mabe. But I can see all the issues with it too like jamming or slowing down.

Infinite loop tapes weren't that uncommon. My man Tech Moan on YouTube has explained a ton of old formats, several of which were infinite loop.

Infinite tape loops are quite the rabbit hole to venture down. Hainbach was the one that started my journey.

This design wouldn't be able to record more than a couple of seconds IMO because the reel cage is blocking where the tape could be fed back in like 8 tracks do. To be honest I KNOW how 8 tracks work but it still feels like a bit of black magic to me. The design just feels like it shouldn't work and should get jammed constantly.

Even though the device says "Tape" on it the miniscule thickness of the cartridge makes me think some thing like a high density floppy disk is more likely.

This is giving me PSP vibes, I like it.
