Genuine questions, if the penalty shootout goes the other way, does Mbappe win the Balon d'or?

AITANA MY GOAT

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Disgusting bully behavior by those not promoting discussion, while only accusing other people of crying for stating an opinion which is largely shared among many.

This sub is toxic.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Cry lmao the goat won

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

It always has been toxic with any discussion involving Messi or Ronaldo, remember that most people here are kids

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Messi/Ronaldo posts turn the place into a pre school unfortunately

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

But it’s not even a dichotomy between the two, it’s just low bully behavior which shuts down any discussion done by probably kids who have no people to talk to.

It’s a shame that the most used subreddit about football is populated by keyboard bullies, and mods who don’t do their job properly and only ban/strike/warn those who disagree with the general narrative.

Eveywhere is toxic in twitter and reddit Stop crying Your idol Pendu is irrelevant and wont be remembered

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

You just proved his point.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Haaland or De Bruyne will get it. As long as Ronaldo is in Arabia they won't give it to Messi. Ronaldo has too much power rn. Messi deserved it by a mile.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (7 children)

Easiest and most deserved choice to give it to Aitana.

A completely bonkers year where she won everything possible and was the most important player for both her club and country.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Always loved his surname, the translation in catalan us Aitana Goodmorning

Barcelona's (and Spain's) golden age. Long may they reign.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Damn straight (unless Spain is playing Australia)

The Women’s World Cup was such a joy and she was absolutely insane throughout it. Genuinely one of my favourite players now

winning the 8th my 🐐

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Deservedly.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Rodri deserves it if not for the fact that he is the engine for City! Without him, the team pretty much crumbles .

And besides it's high time someone else got it other than Messi or Ronaldo. Getting boring now

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Never heard of bonmati, were they at the World Cup?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

She was on the Spain team

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, she won the Golden Ball.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ah I guess I'm just dumb then

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yes. She won the Golden Ball.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fully deserved, an all time performance in the WC where he dragged Argentina from the group stage to lift the cup. Also 20+ goals and 20+ assists in club level is also overlooked, he was very essential especially in the first half of the season

First ballon d'or for player playing outside of europe

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Because of course it's his games since august who clenched the ballon d'or...

This is really a strange way to frame things.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They changed the rules to be by season so it's for his time at psg

Honestly, Messi has such a big Cult of Personality around him, it's hard not to give it to him.

Even his fucking teammates buy into it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

This feels like one of those lifetime career awards they give at the Oscars.

Which is fair enough. Greatest player we will ever see.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

what is with this narrative that messi only won the world cup what????

He scored 16 goals and had 16 assists in the ligue 1 PSG won the league by 1 point and messi was an important factor for them winning the league with several match winning goals

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah but it’s PSG in Ligue 1, realistically they should be winning it by a landslide every year

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

By that logic, so Man city should be winning PL every year as well.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

LOL are you watching psg matches this season?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

They should win, he doesnt say that they always will win. Their budget is just bigger than other ligue 1 team for them to compete

In another universe two Barca players would be Balon D'Or winners again

Imagine the reception Messi would have had at the Camp Nou after the World Cup win

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Not bigger than Argentina

Should've been Haaland imo but it was clear the World Cup fairytale ending was too special for them to not give the award to Messi.

Deserved. An unreal world cup with the golden ball and 20 goals/20 assists at club level.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

It was always gonna be him honestly, the ballon d’or is won on narratives and the narrative of Messi winning the last trophy he never won is simply too strong to ignore for voters

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Robbed haaland

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

To those who are on the mentality of ''What does Haaland have to do to win it?'' It's being a better player than arguably the best player oat in a year with good stats + remarkable playmaking and an all timer World Cup.

However ruthlessly efficient Haaland can be he will always be at least a tad in disadvantage to a player who can move you with their game. I can see him taking a lot of B'Dors home in the next few years so long as the more skillful/complete players, Mbappe being the prime contender for that competition.

Of course big games also matter and while I think Haaland vs Arsenal was his best game by far of the season his contribution in the CLKOs quieted down from the second round of QFs when people and major voters start really scrutinizing performances.

All in all I'd put Rodri above Haaland for the year and not because of his CL winning goal but rather how absolutely key and irreplaceable he has become in a team that used to seemingly always win regardless of who'd play.

Absolutely deserved for both. A lot of crybabies in this comment section that haven't watched Messi outside a few games this season
