Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing on Tuesday to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on a widely watched trip aimed at showcasing the trust and "no-limits" partnership between the countries even as the war in Ukraine raged on.

In only his second known trip abroad since the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for him in March, Putin and his entourage flew into the Beijing Capital International Airport on Tuesday morning, according to Reuters video footage.

To me, China hating the west has always been a very strange stance that I don’t really see any good reason behind. Wish that would change because Chinese people and culture is wonderful.

I don't think china hates the west. It's just only interested in itself. And the way to do that is to deal with everybody and invest in everything with potential. Which is what they're doing. That's how I see it, at least. Maybe I'm way off.

Historical reasons. 1800s was the century of humiliation and then most of 1900s they were under communism, which put them mostly at odds with us.

Outside of poltitics, where there are aspects i like and dislike about china, the only part of the culture that needs to go is the familial pressure to succeed. The pressure to "succeed" in life has created a culture in where a part of its participants feel the need to cheat to gain acceptance due to failure not being an option to the mind.

To my understanding, ancient China saw the rest of the world as barbarians at worst and derivative of Chinese culture at best. I don't know that modern China consciously feels this way, but in my opinion it's sort of their version of America's Manifest Destiny, a cultural memory that says "Of course it's ours, we're the ones with the divine right".

This is the best summary I could come up with:

BEIJING, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing on Tuesday to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on a widely watched trip aimed at showcasing the trust and "no-limits" partnership between the countries even as the war in Ukraine raged on.

Putin is to attend the forum's official opening reception hosted by Xi and talk with the leaders of Vietnam, Thailand, Mongolia and Laos on Tuesday, Russian media reported.

As the forum's chief guest, Putin will speak after Xi on Wednesday and will meet with the Chinese president for bilateral talks later that day.

Beijing has rejected Western criticism of its partnership with Moscow even as the war in Ukraine showed no sign of ceasing, insisting that their ties do not violate international norms, and China has the right to collaborate with whichever country it chooses.

The forum centres on the Belt and Road initiative, a grand plan launched by Xi a decade ago that he hopes would build global infrastructure and energy networks connecting Asia with Africa and Europe through overland and maritime routes.

While the heads of Russia's oil and gas giants Rosneft and Gazprom will be part of Putin's travelling delegation, no new deals in energy can be expected.
