I think humans becoming immortal would be awful. Think about the people who would want to live forever. Awful, bigoted old farts in government would never die and progress would stagnate.

I don't think our lives, our values, our priorities, and our way of doing things would be the same if we were all immortal.

Also depends on what you mean by immortal. Can't ever be killed? Or just can't get old and die of natural causes?

If people in power can't threaten people with death, the masses become a lot harder to control.

It's hard to imagine what our priorities would even be. What would be our motivation? We'd be unrecognizable to ourselves as a species. It would be like meeting a being that exists in a 4th dimension.

Would make for a great sci-fi work though!
