If anything, it should be Man utd who decides the punishment. It’s has got fucking nothing to do with FA. Fix your fucking VAR & referee first

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

The FA is ridiculous lmao

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Any Argentines/Spanish speakers that can clarify what this was meant to convey? It obviously looks absolutely awful in our cultural context, but it also makes zero sense to think he was trying to be insulting. Curious what he was trying to say

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Not sure if related but “mono” = “monkey” is also a kinda popular nickname for goalkeepers. I would say gorilla is a better version of the nickname

Some examples

Navarro Montoya = https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Navarro_Montoya

Burgos = https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germ%C3%A1n_Burgos

Monetti = https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_Monetti

Sanchez = https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_S%C3%A1nchez_(footballer,_born_1987)

Martinez = https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramiro_Mart%C3%ADnez_(footballer)

(some of them you might have to open spanish version of wiki to see the nickname)

Doubt it has anything to do with where he’s from and maybe just him being a bit innocent and not immediately associating the gorilla with racism.

Josip Juranovic posted the same emoji in the Instagram comments of Cameron Carter Vickers whilst he was at Celtic, CCV is known for his strength so everyone knew he was making a comment about that but he deleted his too because of the same reasons here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Probably just meant to convey strength and size and general "power"

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago
[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Paywall. What did he post?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (7 children)

Surely Onana can just say "oh nah it's fine he meant nothing by it" and the FA will drop it

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not really, what if there's a serious case of racism but the player is forced to say that he's OK with it due to the pressure from the club

Just a general thought

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I doubt teammates are racist to each other when they celebrated the win together

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Instead the FA have skipped the whole " what does the percieved victim aka onana thing" of this all and are straight into interviewing Garnacho

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Oh, nah nahh it's fine fam!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

When the whole saga about the Bernardo Silva-Benjamin Mendy tweet happened, Mendy actually wrote a letter to the FA defending Bernardo & saying that he didn’t view the tweet as racist, but the FA still fined & banned (& forced him to attend educational classes about racism) Bernardo for the tweet

He didn't meant like that but deserved

The fact he deleted it means he knows it was "wrong" meaning the FA are free to throw the book at him.

3 games, 100k. Same as Cavani. The fine may be lower since he earns far less than Cavani did.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Absolutely fucking not.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

"Calling him a gorilla is actually a term of endearment in Argentina" - lad who's never left Salford

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

United losing all of their forwards lol

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Complete joke if they try and ban him, now I'm a United fan so there may be some bias here....

but he tweeted a picture of him, Maguire (who scored the winning goal) Onana (who saved a last minute penalty) and Mctominay with Maguire and Onana clearly being the main 2 in the photo.

Garnacho didn't use 1 emoji of a gorilla directed at Onana.. he used 2... the way I see it, he clearly meant it as being 2 beasts who won us the game.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Don’t think he meant it that way. He realized he messed up and deleted it. Why make anything more out of this?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

God forbid they try and do smth about City though

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Fat envelopes stuffed with cash from City makes sure that will never happen.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Laughable organisation

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Why do players get harsh penalties and not officials who mess up all the damn time?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

even if he had done three black emojis in a row, the media would have made it into so racial dispute..

shit's getting alil over the top

edit: 'even'

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Dude looks like a pikeman ready to fight at the battle of hastings, he really has that simple Jack vibe going for him so its not surprising that his decision making isnt the best

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I don't associate gorillas with strength/power/dominance. I associate them with black people, so it's racist regardless of the obvious context. You really can't make this shit up anymore.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Is it racist for them to think the tweet is racist? 🤔

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

These FA execs should anyways be cut and the wages moved to dealing with some real shit rather than these non-issues.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah this is dumb, he's super young, took it down as soon as he was aware, Onana himself has backed him up. Leave it at that

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Good job. Nothing for scuffing the penalty spot before FCK's kick is even better /s

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Fucking moronic but I doubt malicious.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

All you muppets on here calling for his head, onana released a post what he thought about it.

Now please children go be mad about something else.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

The only thing offensive here is those fucking earrings.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

There is real racism in football and this what the FA choose to use as positive PR

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Having been on various sports teams in the past and seen a few (black and white) exceptionally athletic guys referred to as "silverbacks" or "gorillas", it's incredibly obvious that this is an endearing moniker, similar to calling a very strong guy a "beast" or something like that.

Reading racism into it just says more about the reader than anything else.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

The ball is gone

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

As if there’s people in here thinking this is fine

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

FA are a joke. Always have been.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Why is the FA pretending to be offended for Onana? Onana knows that's not how Garnacho meant it, he said it himself.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Its okay to post a white man with a 🐐 emoji, but its not okay to post a black man with a 🦍 emoji?

The world needs to stop being offe dedicated for everyone else. Onanas post was spot on, who can tell him who he should be offended by. The mostly all white male FA will judge if it should be offensive to Onana.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Ok put it on the queue behind city’s 115 charges that are being investigated for 84959402 years

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

FA needs to fuck off

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Riiiiight.

The refereeing in the league is horrendous but sure let's focus on something non-issue.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I dont understand why calling somebody a gorilla can only be a racist insult. It can also be flattering if done with that intention, they are wonderful strong beasts

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

So fucking annoying
