There's always the Hutterite colonies which are absolutely controlled. But that's a different phenomenon, as those are communal farms (in the pre-communist sense).

With the Mennonites, the church fractures and refractures so often, that you don't get a single large entity pulling the strings. But you do end up with community de facto church control. For example, when everyone on the school board is some flavour of Mennonite. Good examples are Steinbach, Winkler, and the communities surrounding them.
