Had high hopes for Tyree Wilson, adding him to a lineup with Crosby and Jones was looking like a nice edge rush.

With Jones gone we have still not asked for much out of Wilson, and he still seems to be behind the 8ball. Has improved getting off the line but his football IQ just does not seem to be there.

By this point I would expect to see raw talent with lack of feel for the pro game. But neither has presented him self. Recently read his scouting report out of college and it was fairly accurate, slow off the ball, disappears at times…

Not much has been mentioned of him in pressers, or any mention of him working hard by coaches or Crosby when they have been asked. All in all disappointed to see his transition in the pros so far.

Hope the guy is just acclimating to his injury but seems like he’s lacking work ethic.

I was not impressed by his college tape. He always just seemed like a man among boys without any real sense of technique; out-leveraging Big 12 linemen with his size and length. Time will tell if he can develop into a solid starter, but I'm not seeing the progression.

Carter would’ve been a great pic, he would’ve filled our biggest need, and I did want him. But after what happened with Ruggs, and all the off field issues, it was best to pass on him. Very easily could’ve got into trouble in Vegas. He NEEDED to go to a place like Philly, where there isn’t the same amount of temptation and where he could be around former teammate who would keep him out of trouble

No he didn’t. This reply is to everyone, but I just chose you. There are numerous cases like this of players being troublemakers before the draft and overanalyzing their character is pointless. Parsons is a beast. Hill is a beast. Philly has all kinds of temptations. I’m so sick of hearing about being with teammates. He was with teammates when he was doing stupid shit! Him and the Ruggs situation are completely different. The reality is that the only way Carter falls to us is because of this situation and we didn’t take advantage of it. We missed on taking a great player just like half a dozen teams whiffed on taking Parsons.

Yes, Philly has all sorts of temptations too, he could easily get in has much trouble in Philly has he could in Vegas. But going to the Eagles is and was the absolute best situation for him. His teammates who are on the Eagles are older, have been in the league longer and better understand how different things are in the pros vs college and what needs to be done to be successful. Overall he simply has a much better support network in Philly vs had he went anywhere else. Had he went to the Dolphins for example, there would’ve been a better chance that he gets in trouble down in South Beach because he wouldn’t have that support network.

You’re way overplaying this. You act like he was doing anything other than being a dumb college kid. He just got caught up. What’s your excuse for Hill? For Parsons? KC and DAL just have better “support networks?” We just have absolutely no resources? No vets to help guide a young kid? Do we not have a perennial all pro that was gonna play right next to him that overcame tons of “temptations?” You’re making way too many excuses. It’s not that Philly has a better “support network.” They simply do what good teams do and draft good players because they believe in their system. There is no excuse unless you’re saying that we didn’t believe in our system. In that case, why did we even have our last regime employed at the draft? We fucked up big

Actually, YES. KC and Dallas has better support networks than the Raiders. KC had Mahomes, and Andy Reid who had a history of dealing with players who had off the field problems and making them solid guys in the NFL. Also Hill did NOT kill anyone. Dallas also has a stronger support network, they’ve drafted numerous players who had issues in college, and had guys like Michael Irvin and others come in and mentor them.

First of all, Mahomes wasn’t even there yet. Second of all Carter didn’t kill anyone. He wasn’t even driving the car with the people that died. You’re just making excuses.

He was involved in it, he was speeding and racing his friend, and very likely was drunk too.

On January 15, 2023, at approximately 2:45 a.m., a serious car crash occurred resulting in the deaths of University of Georgia staff member Chandler LeCroy and football player Devin Willock. The collision, which occurred in East Athens after the Bulldogs had been celebrating their second consecutive national championship earlier in the evening, was believed by police to have occurred as a result of street racing involving LeCroy, who was driving a 2021 Ford Expedition, and Carter, who was driving a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk. LeCroy, whose blood alcohol content was 0.197, more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash, veered off the road after failing to make a proper turn at a high speed. She struck at least two utility poles, downing one of them, and trees before the car came to a stop against the door of an apartment building, blocking the resident inside until the wreckage could be cleared away. Willock, who was not wearing his seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. Two other passengers were injured. It was estimated that both cars reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. LeCroy's speedometer indicated she had been traveling at 83 miles per hour when it broke during the crash.[15][16][17] Carter had previously been cited for traffic violations three times during the fall semester, twice by campus authorities and once by Athens police for traveling at 89 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone.[18]

Well, Ruggs was out doing dumb young kids stuff too, and then we had Arnette do dumb young things, Jacob did dumb young things too. But that’s all ok, right, because we have the veteran leadership on our team to keep Carter from doing dumb shit, when we couldn’t keep Ruggs, Arnette, or Jacob from getting in trouble. And having someone like JMD has the HC, would’ve been great for him too right? If I’m “way overplaying this”, then so were every other team that passed on him. Carter wasn’t supposed to go any lower than #3 overall. But then he fucked up did some “dumb college kids” stuff, because apparently being involved in an accident that KILLS people, is just “dumb college kids stuff”, and that’s perfectly ok. Too bad Ruggs wasn’t in college when he KILLED that woman, because then he’d still be free and playing, because he was simply a “dumb college kid”.

You’re madly out of touch with reality. Ik you just want to defend this team, but plenty of “bad” people are in this sport. Carter was street racing. Something that’s all over the place. If you think Carter is an outlier, you don’t have a clue. It wasn’t drugs. It wasn’t gang related (Arnette). Parsons did way worse shit and look at that? He’s phenomenal. Remember Kareem Hunt? I forgot Cleveland was a poster child for a good culture. The fact is that the only possible way we end up in a situation to draft a player of his caliber in that draft is if he had baggage.

I think it is you who needs to get in touch with reality. Because you are here acting like we were the ONLY team in the NFL to pass on Carter due to his off the field issues. The man went 9th overall, and was lucky his slide stopped there. That means 8 other teams passed on him, what do YOU know about a team and culture that those other 8 teams don’t? Why are YOU not a NFL GM?

Oh, he was simply street racing, so that’s ok, huh? Ruggs was simply speeding, which is also all over the place, so I guess that’s ok too huh? The FACT that TWO people died because he was street racing doesn’t mean anything, the FACT that a woman and her dog DIED because Ruggs was speeding, doesn’t mean anything either right? Drinking and driving is all over the place too, every day, all over the world, people are drinking and driving, and the majority of those people end up just fine, they don’t kill people, so that makes it ok correct?

I NEVER, EVER said that Carter was a “outliner” in anyway shape or form. But the FACT that he was street racing and probably drunk, and then, and THEN shows up to his combine, his job interview where MILLIONS of dollars are at stake, out of shape, showed he didn’t make good judgements. Do YOU show up to job interviews unprepared, looking like a mess? I doubt it.

Micah is accused of doing some hazing, and stealing clothes, that is NOT way worse. Hill fell to the 5th round because of the shit he did. Yeah, Hunt did some bad things too, and his career hasn’t been the same since, he got suspended and then was released because of what he did. But I’m sure you’re ok with what Watson did too huh? Yeah, sure, every NFL team has players who fuck up, and sometimes those players redeem themselves and continue to be good players. But usually those players that continue to play well, do so because they end up going to the right environment. The Raiders are NOT a team with the right environment for players with trouble, and after what happened with Ruggs it was ABSOLUTELY the right call to pass on Carter, it was wayyyy too early to take a RISK on somebody who was already a high risk.

I want the Raiders to be good too, but how would the Raiders be good if they had ANOTHER first round pick get in off the field trouble that costs them their careers? Ruggs had just KILLED a woman last year, Arnette was threatening to KILL people on social media, flashing guns and stuff, Jacob has been arrested for a DUI. Does that SOUND like an ideal culture to bring a guy in who was out drinking and driving, racing on the highway, and got a couple of people killed????? I get it, all you care about is the on the field production, we could have a team of rapists, racists, women beaters, child abusers, and murders, and that’s ok, so long has the Raiders win. You’re not the only fan who has that kind of mentality, many others do too. But how is any of that going to help if the players are in prison? How does Ruggs make us a Super Bowl, or even a playoff contender when he’s in prison?

Y'all need to calm your titties. He's a rookie who was too injured to participate in his first training camp. He already looks better than when he started, he's only just starting to figure things out. Lets give him a proper camp and a little time to see what he becomes. Do you ever look around the league and see how many former raiders players we had given up on have become pretty decent players on other teams? The defense has been making strides, which gives me some faith that our current coaching and vets can help develop the young guys.

It’s interesting because I remember all these analysts saying he was a “top 10” talent.

Yet, somehow, when he was drafted, all those same analysts then started saying it wasn’t a good pick.

Probably because of the injury, but I still guarantee that none of them would have taken Wilson over Carter.

If I remember correctly, it came out either during or closely after the draft, that his surgery/recovery hadn’t gone well, which had put a bunch of teams off. Of course the “smartest guys in the room” thought otherwise, and here we are.

He’ll be better next year. Not to worried about it. Would it have been nice to have a break out rookie? Of course. But I don’t think one year defines a players outlook. Especially a player like Wilson. The injury is a real thing. If he’s hurt next year then you might have more solid ground to stand on.

It’s really odd us arm chair gms have been better talent evaluators than the professionals in the first round. Later rounds our department has done well, but they’ve missed on almost every 1st rounder

Yes Wilson was a reach, said it before week 1 I'll say again now. Wilson coming off a foot injury and will not be 100% full speed. He's going to struggle this year (and he did). Gotta give him the 3 to 4 years to fully develop. Kolton Miller's rookie season was riddled with a knee injury from college the previous year. Took a season and a half to be 100% healthy. Got to give rookies time to develop.

Our fanbase has created the “he wasn’t supposed to be good!” narrative, similar to what we had with Clelin Ferrel.

Being a Raiders fan is a pathological disorder complete with its own symptoms. I’ve named this one “First Round Bust Maladjustment Disorder”

Seriously though I’m expecting nothing from this dude. He can’t even seem to handle stopping to talk to the media, as pointed out by a couple of Raiders media beat people. The fact that Maxx speaks highly of so many other players on defense and never says a peep about Tyree. I’ll gladly eat crow if he suddenly starts playing like he belongs on a NFL team. But for now I’m chalking him up to yet another wasted 1st rounder.

I think Tyree Wilson as a prospect with an incredibly high ceiling and could develop into his potential.

I was pretty patient with Clelin Ferrel and Damon Arnette and Jonathan Abram. I’ll be patient with Tyree Wilson too and won’t just call him a bust because he hasn’t been producing in year 1. But still think we should have drafted Jalen Carter. Whether it’s Champ Kelley or someone else, whoever it is needs to make sure we draft for immediate impact and not for unrealized potential
