Same experience here. A former co-worker and good friend was raised JW, and was practicing for all the time I worked with him.

We used to have long conversations about it, as I was raised CofE, so was fascinated by some of the more extreme takes.

Anyway, he now only refers to them as "the cult" and has absolutely nothing good to say about them.

Ah, ok. Sorry, I thought you were referring to well-off 'ordinary' people.

Totally agree that the way governments fawn over corporations is beyond the pale.

It's a neat idea, similar to how displacement maps affect the output without affecting the geometry of a 3D render.

Also, I like this image, as it makes me feel less bad about my own grizzly-looking heat block.

I don't understand what you mean "still getting plenty for free".

I agree that there shouldn't be this kind of wealth inequality, and it's madness that people are starving in countries that are so prosperous, but it's a little disingenuous to ignore the fact that wealthier people pay more in tax. They're not getting stuff for free, they're getting stuff for more than it costs poorer people.

Children's clothing too.

Where do you think this is?

Lemmy isn't university. There's no implied or expressed expectations of "academic argument".

My gut feeling is that the first person to do this would be opening the gates to all kinds of abusive derivatives being created. She's awesome, she doesn't deserve that.

I'd argue that's the correct order of operations.

I'm not much up for eating the cake after having it.

For the outside looking in, it seems you guys all get really really sick whenever Donald Trump is in charge. I'm not suggesting a connection, but it is weird.

This is it.

Either that, or instate emergency powers using the rules already in place. He's already tested the fence enough to see that the "checks and balances" don't actually affect what he does.

Something that nobody seems to have touched upon is the fact that many dead people are embalmed.

If you suddenly came alive again after being embalmed, you'd suddenly become dead again.

Also, post-mortem examinations are not uncommon if the cause of death was not clear. Again this might lead to instant re-death.

Finally, if the cause of death /was/ clear (such as trauma), then again, that may likely result in instant re-death.

I'm seeing a lot of international messages getting this wrong, so this is how you refer to the Prime Minister of the UK.

First, we normally refer to the PM just by name, like anyone else. So, "Keir Starmer" or "Mr Starmer".

"Prime Minister" is not used as a title like "President" is. He's not "Prime Minister Starmer". He's just "the Prime Minister" or "the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer".

Unusually, this new PM is also a knight. Of course, this has its own rules.

If you want to use this title, it's not quite as simple as replacing "Mr" with "Sir'. The first name is more important than the surname here. He's not "Sir Starmer". He's "Sir Keir Starmer" or "Sir Keir".

Hope it helps!

Hi,

I've recently bought my first EV - a 2014 Nissan Leaf - and hoping someone a bit more knowledgeable than me could help :)

The car itself has a Type 1 and CHAdeMo socket.

I have a Type 2 to Type 1 charging cable and a separate adapter plug, but I've found that some charging stations have Tesla branding and weird two-part plugs on that don't seem to fit.

In the interests of being able to use as many charging stations as possible, I'd really like to know which adapter would be most useful to buy!

(I've mentioned UK in the title, as I'm aware America likes to do its own thing when it comes to plugs.)

Any help would be really appreciated!
