I see Richardson often lumped in with Stroud as rookie QBs who were balling out.

I disagree. Richardson showed some high end talent, but his Rams game was very ugly passing wise. He had 4 completion thru 53 minutes of the game

  • Richardson ranked 33rd in passing grade by PFF.
  • He had the 4th worst on target throws.
  • The Colts ran a very simple pass offense
  • He had the lowest pass yards per game.

Now coming off a shoulder surgery, it just doesn't seem like he is going to succeed.

The Panthers traded a 1sts, 2 2nds, DJ Moore, a swapped a 1st to get Bryce Young.

And Bryce Young has been a bottom 3 QB in the NFL. To give up that much for a guy means you expect him to be a day 1 difference maker

At this point, the only was I could see Bryce becoming an Alex Smith level QB is with 3 great WRs, a top running game and a innovative Offensive HC. And at that point, it bears asking why you traded up so much for a guy that dependent on his surroundings

The Panthers have bungled this completely. Blame Reich, Blame the WRs, Blame the O-line all you want.

At some point Bryce is gonna need to play better. Simple as that

I know people will say "We don't know how Stroud does on Bears" but you could say that for anyone. The next guy Bears draft you could say "We don't know how Williams/Maye does on Bears"

Reasons for:

  • Stroud has elevated mid term WRs and gets the ball out fast.
  • He passes eye test and is MVP contender as a rookie
  • He is on a mid team overall so its kinda comparable to Bears situation

Case against doing it

  • You have 2 top 3 picks.
  • I guess you got an answer on Fields (though I already had one on Fields before this season

Anytime there is a Watson news posts, you see flairs talking about how "I'd never root for my team if they signed him".

A Dolphins flair that has no issue rooting for Hill, but uses cognitive dissonance to say rooting for Watson is bad

Ravens fans who say How much of a trash organization the Browns are when Ray Lewis was involved in an incident where 2 people died

Colts fans acting like their favorite QB didn't sexually assault a trainer as well

Bills fans acting like they don't have a mediocre LB who beat his girlfriend starting currently

Jets fans acting like Dalvin Cook doesn't have numerous DV cases

Steelers fans.

I could go on and on.

My point is EVERY SINGLE NFL TEAM has signed a scumbag. And y'all have rooted for them. Which is fine by me cause you can't control who your organization signs. I just wish people could stop acting like they are special

I wish Richardson well but it is interesting how all we heard was how small Bryce was and how he'd struggle to hold up

Doesn't this prove playstyle has more to do with injuries than size?

To me he 100% is. He has been one of the 3 worst QBs in the league

He is also 5'6 and 165 lbs and has 0 arm talent

He was carried at Alabama

Can't be carried in the NFL

so by your logic here, is Purdy also an MVP candidate?

Yes 100% Brock is an MVP candidate to me

Brock is 1st. 46.6% DVOA so about 10%

I think Dak is a very good QB but I see a weird narrative about the Eagles-Cowboys game

Hurts had a higher passer rating than Dak did. Hurts had a 130 passer rating

Dak had more yards sure but the Eagles have given up 300+ yards to everyone. Sam Howell, Mac Jones and other guys have put up big numbers on the Eagles secondary

Hurts had a much tougher task than Dak did. The Cowboys had allowed the 4th fewest pass yards in the league at that point. The Eagles were 29th vs the pass.

You can't just say, Dak had more yards he played better

DVOA means efficiency per play and DYAR is total volume. So by football outsiders metrics, Stroud is the 2nd best performing qb this year on a play by play basis and the most valuable overall.

His DYAR is 1031. on pace for 1964 DYAR over this season.

His DVOA is 36.8%, meaning he is 36.8% above a league average QB.

To give context to how impressive this is, I will list a few QB seasons with similar metrics.

Aaron Rodgers in 2020 in his 48 TD 5 INT season had a 33.7% DVOA and 1649 DVOA. Granted this was a 16 game season.

Mahomes 50 TD season was 39.9% DVOA and 2031 DYAR.

So Stroud is playing at a similar level to 2 MVP, HOF QBs best seasons

If you are skeptical about these advanced metrics, Stroud also grades well in traditional ones.

He is 3rd in ANY/A (and the 2 ahead of him have much better offensive rosters), 6th in passer rating and 13th in pass success rate.

He should be in serious MVP consideration, especially with the defenses he has faced so far.
