I am looking for an 8-bay (or more) desktop NAS (diskless). Have some hardware to trade for the NAS (some options below, not everything for the NAS)
- 18x 3.8TB SAS SSD
- 32x 32GB DDR4 ECC
- SuperMicro 12 bay SAS2 chassi (with 2x PSU)
- 6x Xeon Gold 6142 CPUs
- Supermicro 24 bay SAS3 chassis (2x SQ 930w PSU)

I wouldn't use NFS/SMB, but iscsi could be an option if the NAS supports the protocol
