Pc gaming was a lot smaller back then too. More serious communities all had a vent or teams peak. That only started to die down when xfire came out and brought anothed influx of non pc people (or someone thst only played one game like ever quest) into gaming spaces.

Less centralized services is a good thing. As long as self hosting isn't intentionally worse in some way I see this as a great thing for competition. I don't want discord viewing my data, and I don't want to pay them to be able to share a video over 8mb with what is essentially the new form of group chat for a lot of people.

Astrogoblin is also pretty good, it's Jacob/Patrick/Charlotte (and occasional Ryan Hailey visits)

Very thankful for the untold number of hours of Funhaus I watched. Very thankful I never got too into the Fandom.

If you're using proton and your isp found out, something is configured wrong or working incorrectly. (or user error 😢)

Guy may or may not have been pretty shitty himself. I don't feel like digging up old reddit threads tho so this comment doesn't do much.

No screen share and there seems to be a reluctance to add/address requests for it. They add that and I can get my whole community to switch. Until then it's not happening.

Unless you are using a specific definition I'm not familiar with this isn't true. There are definitely places officially reffered to as village rather than city or town.

Cool chat gpt readout. Any sources or info actually worth reading though?

For the most part it's just a different browser and way weirder looking links that make navigation too much of a chore for average day to day users, but there are link aggregators, forums, and search tools for finding whatever category of the web you're looking for.
