I recall what started the economic battle was Putin invading his neighbor, Ukraine. This has blown past whatever BS he said about the provinces he destabilized and led to a direct attack on the sovereignty of said country. Imagine the wealth that might have been preserved, if only Putin could keep his second-rate army within his borders.

Yes, as a client state to China, as North Korea is now. And when China and India flare up, Russia will be forced to choose China. Their options only become more narrow, so long as Putin remains in control.

Apartheid in South Africa didn't end until student activists finally shamed the Regents of the University of California into divesting from that regime. The rest of the world followed. Israel has a much more aggressive political lobby, so it's much harder to talk about social justice there without the reflexive Israeli smears of anti-antisemitism. The original Anonymous crew was tracked down and prosecuted. Today I think it's just a cover for American cyber security forces. This is just a flex in a secret war that's been on-going for a while. They were embarrassed and unprepared in the 2016 election, in defending against email hacking. They were quiet, but capable, in the 2020 election, in disrupting their Russian counterparts.
And today we hints of superiority. Leaking Russian military plans and claiming it came from FSB moles? That's just to tickle Putin's paranoia and trigger a purge of inside the FSB. Co-opting Russian TV channels? Dumping docs? It seems like American cyberwar units are running inside Russian infrastructure with impunity. This is the real Cold War 2.0.
