Never have, never will.

So, here's the funny thing about "never will". It's not a promise you can go back on. "Never will" means "forever won't".

Changing that language is a breech of trust. Getting all "nuanced" and weasel-wordy about it doesn't change that.

Folks should start looking into whether the previous promise is legally binding in any way, and start preparing for a class action suit if it is. Because Mozilla's better dead than it is as zombie smoke screen for this horse shit.

Isn't it, though? Isn't this how the USA has treated most countries smaller than it? Less wealthy than it? Less white than it?

Growing up outside of the US, this behaviour seems completely in line with how the country has always behaved on the international stage, just pointed at one of the "good" countries.

Trump is the average Murica, Fuck Yeah type that we meet online all of the time, and have for the past 30+ years. He's the Yankee tourist that comes into our towns and expects us to accept their foreign currency, weather their patronizing questions, and cater to their idiosyncratic demands.

Trump doesn't seem like a surprise to us. He seems like the natural outcome of a country that has tooted its own horn on the world stage for 80 years, that has glorified its military and its military might, that has waved the phrase "American Exceptionalism" at its own population without irony, and that long mythologized its history. Remember, fascism was popular in the US 90 years ago. The only problem y'all had with the Nazis was that they were German. I mean, if you use Ur-Fascism as a checklist, the USA checks off most of the boxes on a good year.

You might not be cognizant of that, but many of us living outside your borders very much are.

I don't like what I see in the mirror most days, either. But I don't get to deny the grey hairs and aging face. I sure as hell don't go out in public shouting to the world "I'm not getting old; this greying, overweight man isn't me!"

Niching down is only required, or even desirable, once there's a critical mass of users cross-talking in a general space. Canada -> Canadian Media -> Canadian TV -> CBC Television -> CBC News -> whatever can be created as the discussions become too much for the more general bucket.

It's exactly the sort of words I would use, given what the words mean. Statistical significance is a technical term, meaning that the results are likely to be representative of the true value in the population, and not some editorial flair meant to undercut the shift in polls.

The margin of error is larger than the polling advantage measured in the survey, which means the reported lead is statistically insignificant, and that they were just as likely to find that the CPC held a narrow lead if they were to have shuffled their call list during the survey period.

I currently have a job. One I've been trying to get out of for years, where no one will tell anyone what they want, and just gesture broadly towards abstract-sounding goals which can all be rephrased as "sell more", even though I am not in sales.

People will often tell those who are unemployed that being unployed is the reason they're not getting hired - that people want to hire those who are currently working - but that doesn't seem to be true. Not in my experience, at least. And not since everyone decided to pretend the whole fever dream of a perpetual-lockdoen economy never happened.

It's totally dried up. A couple of years ago, I had recruiters reaching out to me, and was making it pretty far through the interview process before getting tossed aside in the last step. Often the reasons for getting passed over were pretty weak at the time, but now no one's talking to me at all.

Large, monolithic social media sites like Facebook and Reddit got away from some of that, just because they're too big to police. But the fediverse isn't. Not yet, anyway. Bad neighbours are defederated from, and bad actors are banned.

Don't be a giant pain in the ass if you don't want to be shown the door. Or go back to spaces that are too big to GAF about you.

Yes, perhaps. But I suspect that still distracts from the fact that we're trying to sell an illusion with the fediverse, and I personally believe that that is a mistake. So many issues people voice about their experience here come from the design of everything emulating Big Social, and Big Social is centralized.

Aping the design language of centralized social media and then trying to get anyone other than enthusiasts on board is never going to work.

One of the ways we do this is by referring to "Mastodon" and "Lemmy" as if they are places you can go to, websites you can use. This is why I chose phpBB as my reference point. I've used WordPress and Joomla in the past, with less impact. We don't and have never spoken about phpBB as a singular location. You would respond to someone suggesting you "use phpBB" with, at the very least, a confused look. Or, if you didn't know what it is, you'd ask them "what is that?" and they'd tell you "forum software", revealing that their request of you was absurd. "Get an email address" is, at the very least, something that isn't a nonsensical request. Websites demand it of us all of the time.

I've finally finished up my remastered oracle guide (or near enough to put it out there). I've got a few last touches I'm putting in place for some Divine Access recommendations, but as a whole, it's finished. The last section that needs some love is items, which is where I'll be spending the bulk of my time this weekend.

There's a high likelihood that I haven't quite ironed out all the editing / conversion mistakes I wanted to. Feedback is very welcome!

Over on Reddit, u/ThreeDaysGuy announced a new Godot-based combat manager that they've been working on for Pathfinder 2e. Unlike the vast majority of PF2e tools, this one's an actual, honest-to-goodness desktop application.

It's still rather young, and it's not feature complete yet. It's pulling creature data from the PF2 Foundry module, and is a few months behind on updating that.

The author has Windows binaries up for download on Itchi.io, but the program is platform neutral. They just don't have any pre-compiled binaries for Linux or Mac yet (you can build your own using the Godot compiler). We're starting to see some action in the system neutral space again. There's this fascinating trend happening right now -- and maybe this is just an evergreen phenomenon that I haven't been paying any attention to -- of writers claiming (or believing) that their seemingly 100% flavour-text projects are somehow system restricted. Several books were listed with the author doing a lot of 5e thumping with zero mention of anything else, but their books actually appear to be OSR-style encounter tables or whatnot.

Gotta love a functional monopoly, eh?

Anyway, there are no Pathfinder-specific projects live right now, though there are a couple that have cropped up claiming to be 'Launching Soon'.

I'm looking at handing out some Relics to my players, but I'm having some difficulty understanding the guudance on Relic gifts in the GM Core. Specifically, I've been somewhat broken by the treasure-by-level table, and it's not clear to me whether a Relic us suppised to get 2 minor gifts at Level 5 and 3 major gifits at Level 10, or if it should receive its second gift at Level 5 and its third at Level 10, and those gifts should be a minor and major gift, respectively.

My default assumption is the latter, but... You know... Treasure by level...

u/JM-the-GM over on Reddit is offering to run new players through Menace Under Otari in January. If you know anyone who might be interested trying the game out, and they use Discord, it might be worth a look.

I will be running Menace Under Otari for new players or players that haven't played it yet free of charge through the month of January. The module will consist of 2-3 3 hour sessions. Not a whole lot of news in the world of crowd funding this week. A bunch of campaigns have wrapped, with nothing new on the PF/System Neutral front materializing. We do have a couple of SN projects coming to a close in the next week, though.

I've gone back to add some additional fields to my growing set of campaign data, including whether campaigns are taking late pledges. I'm still collecting data by hand, though, so changes to the status of these finished campaigns may get missed.

As the year closes out, though, it seems to have been a fairly good one for projects supporting Pathfinder, both 2e and 1e. I'm looking forward to growing my library of monsters I'll never get an opportunity to use in 2025.
