Autumn is my favorite. Followed by Spring. Then Summer. Winter would be fine if it only lasted a week.

Yeah, it’s a complex topic with no clear “right way”. That’s why the major social networks have always had trouble finding a method that works and there’s always some group who feels oppressed and/or marginalized.

Embrace, extend, extinguish. Something that has been used by large companies in the past to push out the smaller, more open systems many times.

That said, I agree with @[email protected] that blocking by default would be against the open platform that we claim we want. Users can choose to block accounts themselves or not interact with Threads. So long as these instances are publicly available, there's nothing stopping big companies from hovering up the data passing through them whether or not they are attached as a peer.

Those are the two main points that I've seen as possible concerns with allow federation with Meta or any other commercial property and neither is really that severe.

The good side is that, for folks who are only ever going to go with a big company's site, it still allows us more privacy-minded folks the chance to interact with them. Something that is just flat out impossible today without compromising our own principles.

I used to listen to some of Scott's novels a long time ago when he was releasing some of them as podcasts for free. I had completely forgotten about him. Thanks for the reminder to check him out!

I personally have no issue with it. So long as it's properly marked (is marking as NSFW a thing in Lemmy?) I'd understand wanting to unfederate from a server that didn't properly mark it though.

Alright. It’s been decided. Henceforth, we’ll all call it the fedoraverse!

Thank you for hosting this! It’s a great little place and it’s nice that it isn’t a super big site.

I work IT for a fairly large enterprise. I’m willing to help out however I can. I’ve not run Lemmy, but I have experience with Python, containers, Kubernetes, Java, PHP, and basic database administration with a strong background in systems monitoring as well, so even if you just an extra site monitoring probe, just hit me up.

Never mind. I found it. But you got to be on the main page to see the right sidebar.

How does one see the sidebar while on mobile in a browser?

Meanwhile, my cat takes five minutes to figure out the jump/climb just to get up the cat tower. She’s… not very good at catting.

I've just created an account here after the Reddit API pricing stories started going around. Not really ditching Reddit yet, but thought I'd start looking at what else is out there.
