I don't think this really is whataboutism. If I responded with, for instance, "But ChatGPT is way less energy efficient and wastes tons of water", then it would be. But I believe I'm comparing apples to apples. And I'm not singling out specifically ChatGPT or Gemini or what have you, I'm saying that every LLM suffers from the same problem, whether it's from USA, China, Russia, Argentina, Mongolia or Uganda. ChatGPT and Gemini are just big and well-known examples. Also DeepSeek is quite new, at least it's popularity is, so we'll have to wait and see whether these "but DeepSeek..." comments will appear.

Yeah, the whole article reads like "China says good things, but actually, they are just bad things in disguise! Chinese AI is cheaper and in some cases better, but actually its all a master plan for world domination! Remember, guys, China bad!!!"

Of course the software created in China would intentionally try to follow Chinese laws. Just as American software follows the laws of the US. However, China made their models open-source, so people can tinker with them and (possibly) make a fork without the censorship, and run it locally without any data being sent who knows where. While ChatGPT, Gemini and all the rest are closed-source, and you have zero control over them, so you can't even hope to circumvent the propaganda that's built into those models.

DeepSeek is designed to follow Chinese state propaganda. ChatGPT is designed to follow American oligarchy propaganda. Each side pushes their own biases. Where is the false equivalence?

Also I wasn't meaning to instill hopelessness or indifference. On the contrary, I tried to point out that you should be equally as mad at OpenAI/Google/the rest of the western AI companies as you are at the DeepSeek. The fact that people are only mad at China and not at the megacorporations in the west does, imo, indicate their biases.

The poster says "с Победой!", literally "With the Victory". Most likely relates to the victory in WWII in some way, either awaiting it or congratulating on it.

Also, I'll take an educated guess and say that you're in New York. And since it's America, these homeless people didn't have access to psychiatric or narcologic help during their stay, and probably didn't have any relatives/friends/social workers to support them (you and your friends clearly never offered help beyond what's required for you and them to receive money). And battling mental illness alone, while still stressing about a job and where to love after the contract expires and they're kicked out because they're too disabled to look after themselves doesn't lead to a speedy recovery. Same applies if they're battling addiction.

At the same time, yearly police budget of NYC is 5.8 billion dollars. Given that there are around 100 thousand homeless people and NYC median rental rate of ~3100$/month for a studio appartment, NYC could pay for a full studio appartment for each homeless person for the whole year, and it would cost under 2/3 of the police budget. So yeah, it's not THAT expensive in the grand scheme of things.

And your solution is, let me guess:

Step 1) make up a situation to be mad at.
Step 2) get mad at it.
Step 3) ????
Step 4) allow police to hunt homeless people for sport.

Now, to be serious, step 2 in your example is a lie fed to you by the police state in order to manufacture fear of homeless people and justify its own existence. Therefore the rest of your post is bullshit as well. And when your neighbor has a mental health crisis, you should call social services and doctors, not the police. The fact that your first instinct is to punish and incarcerate mentally unwell people instead of helping them to get better says a lot about your current mindset actually.

And you're suggesting that because some old fart decided to cling to power, everyone should stop demanding that their will is represented and start kissing that old fart's ass.
