They're showing spine by freezing hiring, cancelling salary increases, and slashing budgets. Oh and forming committees, they love doing that. That money isn't being touched until they lose all of their researchers and international students. I was hopeful as well but all communication so far points to whoever runs the endowment not seeing past the yearly returns and their resulting bonuses.
