I have no issues with facists fucking off. The problem is most people on lemmy seem to give just about everyone they disagree with a facist tag. Honestly in the US I agree the situation is different, but here in canada, I haven’t heard of anyone dying or being abducted by conservatives.

That’s the problem. You see the other side in a way they themselves really aren’t. When people say the left is just as bad as the right, they don’t mean in opinions and policies, but in behavior, just like you’re doing. They both think themselves as having the moral high ground while the other side is complete and utter evil.

Honestly of all the conservatives I know, I don’t think a single one of them is remotely racist in any way. One in particular is agaisnt talking about lgbt stuff in schools but he also has a trans friend and thinks as long as they’re adults it’s fine. It’s not being evil, it’s having a difference in opinion.

It’s not about tolerance imo, it’s about discussion. You’d be surprised to learn their reasoning if you actually listened to it. You don’t have to agree with it.

Both sides have this problem right now. Both only converse with their own. Why are republicans not changing? Well if their friends, family and everyone they talk to is a republican, they’ll never be exposed to different opinions.

Don’t forget that both sides can have valid policies depending on how you view the world. I’m not taking about trump and whatever you people are doing out there in the US, but in general, conservatism is the idea that people will manage their money, rather than the government.

Look at Quebec for example. A very socialist government. 2 years ago they invested a ton of money into one electric bus company. Well that company failed really bad and while they aren’t completely bankrupt, they aren’t far. It’s easy then to then see why conservatives would want to vote conservative. If their money had stayed in their pocket instead of going to the government, this wouldn’t have happened.

Same thing with health. The public health system is currently clogged up so a lot of people end up having to pay to go to the private sector to actually get cured in time. So conservatives believe this whole system is a huge waste of taxpayer money. Most conservatives I know aren’t agaisnt the government helping with that, but they’d rather the government just pay the invoice after you went to a private clinic, similar to insurance in the states, rather than try to control a system that clearly isn’t working.

The lemmy community is a very specific subset of reddit’s. Reddit has a somewhat more diverse set of opinions and interests. Despite lemmy not having a specific algorithm, it ends up being an echo chamber nonetheless, a bit more than reddit imo.

That and of course the fact that if you remove political content and tech/linux, there is hardly anything left.

I used to like it, but more recently I’ve tried other brands and now tabasco just tastes bland in comparison. Last I bought it, I had to empty half the bottle in the dish and didn’t even taste it. I know they have different hotness scales, not sure if the one I bought was the hottest out there, but it was the hottest they had at the store.

That’s straight up not true. It’s not even remotely close to that.

If you’re getting a segfault in C++, it’s also cause you used unsafe code. It’s just not officially enclosed in an “unsafe” block.

The whole point of a segfault is that you can’t really know anything about it. Even in rust, when you get a segfault there is no meaningful error.

Isn’t it a known fact that vegetable fats like canola oil are way healthier than animal fats? I’m not sure how they make margarine to be honest, but I’ve always heard from multiple reputable sources that cooking with canola oil was way healthier than butter.

I’m sorry but having a conversation, debating and disagreeing isn’t being rude. People on linux willingly made the choice to move to it, so they are usually more knowledgeable about it, and therefore know enough to have arguments.

Honestly the “linux users are elitists/rude” thing feels like just a meme at this point. In a decade of using it as a daily driver, I can probably count on one hand how many times someone was actually rude when I asked for help.

That’s the distro’s fault, not linux. Same with your network drive. It’s not up to linux to provide a GUI for anything.

Also “intuitive” should not have to mean “windows-like”. It’s hard for people because they spend over a decade on a fundamentally different OS. Adding a single line to fstab isn’t harder than searching windows’ menus. It’s harder for you/others because you/they are used to it working that way.

I recently saw the new 550 drivers fixing a lot of wayland issues as well as KDE 6 being a lot better on wayland and decided, you know what, let me try it.

The first question was, which WM do I use? Initially I wanted to try DWL or Sway, since I currently use DWM on Xorg and like it quite much. However, I was somehow taken in by the Hyprland hype and man their website is flashy. So, okay I'll try that.

From there, I didn't last an hour. First of all, hyprland was using 20% of a cpu core and 200Mb permanently, on idle, without blur, shadows or animations enabled. This is absolutely insane, especially since, without these things, it was functionally the same as my DWM setup, which barely uses 0.5% and 9mb of RAM. Now I understand that Xorg included more things and the compositor devs or wlroots have to write more code on their own, but 20% is way too insane for me to even consider the switch. Now I honestly believe that this is an NVIDIA thing, as googling around people seemed to say it was pretty lightweight with some features disabled.

The second issue I noticed was ultimately the deal breaker. I could have tried Sway or DWL next and maybe one of those would have been fine. However, it seems like NVIDIA does not support hardware cursor on wayland. It's listed as an issue under wlroots, hyprland and sway. Now I will admit I do play video games sometimes and using some floaty unresponsive software cursor is out of the question when I've already experienced the bliss that is a hardware cursor. I don't know when this will be added, but according to a phoronix post, someone added the code to the nvidia driver and it does work on KDE now, so maybe it will be added to wlroots and the likes soon.

That's it, just wanted to talk about it a little since I was somewhat disappointed. I have wanted to move to wayland for a long time, it seems like I will still have to wait. One thing's for sure, I'm never buying an NVIDIA card again.
