Apple’s iCloud backups aren’t encrypted by default,

Why the fuck not?

The government is backing plans for nine new reservoirs to ease the risk of rationing and hosepipe bans during droughts.

But some of these are in areas where new data centres are set to be built.

This complaint seems odd. Surely it's good that some of the reservoirs being built will also help data centres?

Data centres are needed, reservoirs are needed, work seems to be underway for us to have both.

This is good news. I've seen way too many rental properties in awful states. Broken single pane windows, barely working boilers, no insulation... all issues that the landlord won't fix, because the housing shortage means there's always people lining up in need of somewhere to live.

A PS5 Pro is far more powerful than the average gaming PC.

And I don't know why you think an APU can't achieve good performance. The PS5 Pro manages it despite being a small die size and an old CPU architecture.

You talk of the need to make it manufacturable cheaply - that's what APUs are good at. Having it across several chips that need more expensive board layouts, far more memory, and more advanced cooling adds cost.

At least half of those were definitely used.

Cool change.

On the topic of Flatpak games... I hope Valve takes over the flatpak/Flathub version of Steam. Right now it's unofficial.

Valve only officially supports the .deb package on the most recent Ubuntu LTS, and their official SteamOS version.

Despite this, Canonical defaults to the unofficial Snaps version - in the past when this caused issues, Valve said that people should use the Flathub version - which they don't actually support!

Come on, Valve. You know it makes sense. You clearly like Flatpaks if you're telling people to use them and preinstalling them on the Deck. Make it official!

When you wake up early, start a long commute, work in a shit job (often with unpredictable hours), have an unpaid lunch break, work some more in your understaffed company, then start the long commute back home to your parents house because you can't afford a place of your own, then yeah, I can imagine that's stressful.

And it gets more so when you open social media or news and it's always the privileged or the elderly (often they're even one and the same) constantly shaming youth for being horrible lazy pieces of shit who won't lift themselves up by their bootstraps.

The increase in minimum wage is a great thing. As is the incoming increase in workers rights. I won't sit and pretend Labour are doing nothing. But more needs to be done if you want a mentally healthy workforce.

Just saying "too many find XYZ stressful" without detailing how you plan to change that isn't helping.

The rest of the world is going all in on geothermal?

Do you have a source for that?

Not a laptop-class one, no. That's why I said custom. A PS5 Pro uses an APU and is more powerful than most people's desktops.

Those people are usually also in denial about treating women worse.

It's because it goes against the conservative conspiracy theory of trans women simply being men in dresses infiltrating womens' public toilets and prisons as a means to harass them.

"And what's your explanation for the existence of FtM trans, then? What's their sinister ulterior motive?" is a question they don't have the answer to, so they straight up pretend FtM doesn't exist. They're conveniently ignored.

It's fundamentally harder to spread fear, uncertainty, and doubt over "women dressed as men" than it is to do it for the inverse.

It absolutely would. 16GB of VRAM and another 16GB of system RAM adds up. Plus the other associated costs.

The rumour is nonsense and Valve isn't making a console with a 9070.
