You're correct about the longer cars needing wider turns.

Really the biggest problem with the LRT is trying to make it an LRT after the tunnel was built. It's really a metro system with the wrong type of train. Every other North American city with an "LRT" has a system where the centre goes thru downtown at grade usually in mixed traffic (I think, feel free to correct me.) Our system doesn't, it's fully grade separated the entire time, so why continue to use tram trains? Our trains are low floor which is great when you can't build a tall platform downtown in the middle of the street. But when it's grade separated you're really limiting capacity as the wheels go into the cars taking up seating and standing space.

It annoys the crap out of me that our city is continuing to use these fucking trains. I wish they either sold the trains and adjusted all the stations to high platforms and used real metro trains, or kept them and used them on a real tram system (maybe along Baseline or Carling, or up and down Bank St?)

Sorry for the long post, the trains just bug me a lot, altho I'm greatful we have something and at least have the tunnel. The hard part is done, rails and stations and trains can be fixed. (Maybe not with this mayor however.)

The only reasonable tax I could see being applied to an electric car is a weight tax, but that should be for all cars, not just electric. If your cars weighs more, you should pay more, especially at the city level.

More weight means it produces more wear and tear on roads. Not to mention they are more deadly, even at low speeds.

But I doubt this would happen in Mississippi lol

So, when road closers happen, it can actually take a while for traffic to change and people to adapt to any change. Happens the other way too, if you add lanes to a highway for a few months traffic flows better, but after I think 6 or so months, I can remember actual number, it just returns to normal or worse.

I'd love to see the driveway shutdown for a while year straight (winter maintained of course) and see what happens to traffic. Winter maintenance might be easier because both lanes wouldn't need to be complete cleared for people to use it. I know less people bike in the winter, but is that because it's harder, or because the roads and paths aren't maintained?

Wish we didn't elect Sutcliffe tho, he's obviously being hostile to anyone outside a car. God forbid some one in a car needs to take a little longer than anyone else.

I enjoy when the driveway is closed to cars and I can use it commute to the market by bike. Sure I can go along the canal, but it's much fast and I'm out of people walking away on the road.

You're very welcome!

Bullshit Jobs is actually the only thing I've read from him, besides maybe one article. What else do you recommend?

Thank you for spreading the gospel of Bullshit Jobs! Its not mentioned enough.

OP is correct, this is from Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber. Here's a link on the anarchist library: https://theanarchistlibrary.org/library/david-graeber-bullshit-jobs

Highly recommend the book, really changed how I view work.

I remember when Voat came out and the slight exedous that brought. I made an account and everything but it never properly took off. I checked on it two or three years later and it was just filled with alt-right/racist/transphobic garbage. Sad it never took off as a reddit alternative, reddit likely would have greatly benefited from a proper alternative, not sad it closed down after I saw what it ended up.

So far the fediverse feels really different tho, very explicitly anti that type of shit. I'm sure it will pop up, they always do, but maybe now people know how to deal with it. Block it, defederate, deplatform.

Shit you right. My apologies, I skimmed your post very late at night lol.

Hopefully more apps pop up with more customization and settings like that.

On Connect for Lemmy, hold down on a comment to collapse it. Works the same was as rif did altho I'm still getting used to it.
