Vampire Survivors devs launch official wiki "free of ads, banners, and all of the junk that gets in your way," joining Stardew Valley and Terraria in community wikis with minimal intrusions

Vampire Survivors developer Poncle has just launched a new official wiki for the viral roguelike, which promises an ad-free browsing experience. You can browse the new Vampire Survivors wiki here. Official Vampire Survivors Wiki | OUT NOW - YouTube Watch OnThe wiki most Vampire Survivors fans would have previously been checking would likely have been the unofficial one hosted by Fandom. The Vampire Survivors devs are in good company in working with the community on an official wiki. Back in 2022, Terraria developer Re-Logic distanced itself from the game's Fandom, launching a new official option with minimal ad intrusions. 🖊️️🤖

How is GOG Galaxy Still Not On Linux?

If you do want that integrated all-in-one experience of a client, GOG does have its own client known as GOG Galaxy you can download to manage your games. There’s just one problem though, one problem that gives a lot of otherwise-interested Linux users some hesitation in fully switching over to buying their games on GOG. Try to see if you can spot it in this picture:That’s right, GOG Galaxy doesn’t support Linux. Obviously Windows is dominant, but what’s really telling is how there’s a larger share of Linux users than Mac users. And while you could argue Linux users do have other community-made clients available to them such as Lutris (which do support GOG games), these aren’t a full replacement. 🖊️️🤖

Indie devs have begun adding a no generative AI stamp to their store pages

AI this, AI that - you can't go anywhere without something trying to force AI on you. So indie devs have begun fighting back with their No Gen AI Seal. Announced by Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou of Polygon Treehouse (Mythwrecked & Röki) on Bluesky, they've launched the free to use No Gen AI Seal available via the Polygon Treehouse website. Perhaps in future we might see stores add specific filters to select "No Gen AI". There's a lot of silliness going around like how Phil Spencer of Microsoft Gaming thinks generative AI will help game preservation and the Take-Two CEO believing AI will increase employment and productivity. 🖊️️🤖

Super Smash Bros. creator says instead of making more "Americanized works," Japanese devs should "seek the uniqueness and fun of Japanese games"

Masahiro Sakurai, the legendary mind behind Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the beloved 25-year-old series behind it, thinks developers in Japan should focus on creating more games "that Japanese people like" after a shift to "Americanized works." "It's not really my own idea," reveals the director, "but as an industry trend, I think Japanese people should keep pursuing the things that Japanese people like." He doesn't think that the overseas market is actually searching for this more "Americanized," filtered experience, however, "but rather, I think that they seek the uniqueness and fun of Japanese games." Masahiro Sakurai says Super Smash Bros "might have died out" if not for late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata: "There's no doubt that he influenced me in many ways" 🖊️️🤖

EA releases source code for four Command & Conquer games

Video game preservation scored a win today with EA's decision to make four Command & Conquer games open source. The company has released the source code for Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Command & Conquer: Renegade and Command & Conquer: Generals through a GPL license. In addition, EA is adding Steam Workshop support to more contemporary entries in the real-time strategy franchise, including a modding support pack with assets from the series titles on the SAGE engine, such as Command & Conquer Red Alert 3. (Plus, never forget that Red Alert 3 also contains the single best line delivery in all of video game history.) EA released meticulous remasters of the first two installments of Command & Conquer in 2020 , which included the release of those games' source code. 🖊️️🤖

Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the other new games out this week

The new game releases this week may look a little familiar, but all of them attempt to push their genres or series in new directions. Oh, and there’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows at the end of the week, with a story set in feudal Japan and a whole base-building system. But that will come after Pathologic 3, which starts the week off with another macabre story of death and decay. MLB The Show 25 promises a bunch of new additions to the series, including that roguelike board game mode. And if sports aren’t for you, Reignbreaker is a game that mixes medieval weaponry with a bit of cyberpunk. 🖊️️🤖

The Brief History of Motion Sensor Aiming in Video Games

In this mode, you can look around from Link's perspective, and motion aiming is back. Motion Aiming is used, but unlike Nintendo’s implementation of Motion Aiming in the Wii era and Ocarina of Time 3D, you can finally use the Right Stick to move the camera. Here comes the recycled paragraph…and it also heavily relies on Motion Controls due to the focus on 360-degree flight. It is playable without Motion Aiming and you can turn it off in the settings, but you practically need Motion Aiming for traversal. (ironically, Wii U Gamepad works better there than handhelds)Unlike Intu-Aiming (which uses ADS for Motion Aiming), Splatoon opts for "Always-On" Motion Aiming. 🖊️️🤖

I've been thinking about various options based on Square Enix's history with previous games. A port of the Steam version would come across as kinda lazy, but it would still be acceptable. Hironobu Sakaguchi wants his next (and maybe last) game to be ‘a successor to Final Fantasy VI’

It was even published by Final Fantasy company Square Enix. Do you ever worry people are missing what makes Fantasian unique Not really, since my approach to creating Fantasian was different from my previous works. I intended Fantasian to be my final project before I retired, so it was somewhat of a farewell note from me What was it like working with Square Enix again? The big change for this game is the addition of voice acting. Now that you’ve wrapped up Fantasian, what does that joy look like for you moving forward? It’ll be part two of my farewell note. 🖊️️🤖

Every Age of Empires Game Ranked, From Worst To Best

Age of Empires II: Age of Kings was the first game I have ever played on PC, so it’s no wonder this series has a special place in my heart. What Age of Empires: Mobile truly is, is Return to Empire, a mobile game from 2020 with an Age of Empires II skin. It’s a fun relic from a bygone age that’s worth collecting for the oddity that it is. Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition Age of Empires II was (and still is) a genre-defining game that surpassed every other RTS at the time it came out. So, it’s natural fans of the series had massive expectations for Age of Empires III. It just wasn’t an Age game anymore”. I personally didn’t dislike Age of Empires III. 🖊️️🤖

The Last Of Us Part II will require a PSN account to play on PC, making it unplayable in over 100 countries

The Last Of Us Part II requires a PSN account to play on PC. This means the game won't go on sale in certain countries. This is despite the fact that many of these games are entirely single player. Sony's reasons for enforcing the requirement remain obscure. It seems a stupid strategy to exclude entire countries of possible sales just to enforce a DRM policy. 🖋️🤖

This list only shows books that I know a lot about or I've read This series is the grandad of Gamebooks. The lore reminds me of Warcraft, and the gameplay feels as if Diablo was shrunken down into a book Each book will feature 2 to 3 Acts, in each act, you'll have a number of quests. Cons- Book 1 is not bad, but it doesn't represent what the series has become. This book was created to be an accessible entry into Gamebooks. It might also add to the replayability of the book Each book represents a location on the world map and everything can become interconnected. Nothing in this book is complex, everything is very simple, but, well crafted. I'll also update the list below with more books as I find them 🖊️️🤖

Publishers are absolutely terrified "preserved video games would be used for recreational purposes," so the US copyright office has struck down a major effort for game preservation

The US copyright office has denied a request for a DMCA exemption that would allow libraries to share digital access to preserved video games. The exemption would open up the possibility of a digital library where historians and researchers could 'check out' digital games that run through emulators. The VGHF argues that around 87% of all video games released in the US before 2010 are now out of print. 🖋️🤖

Balatro Dev Calls Out PEGI For “Real Gambling” Rating Hypocrisy Vs. EA Sports FC

PEGI, short for Pan-European Game Information, is a European rating system dedicated entirely to video games. Games that depict gambling can be hit with these age ratings. Balatro is not a gambling game, and it has no microtransactions. It uses poker hands as a gameplay mechanic, but the game is substantially a roguelike deck-builder. 🖋️🤖

Newzoo’s data shows that the top 10 games on each platform are filled with old, established titles. Fortnite took the crown on all platforms, including Switch and PC. Of the 23 percent of playtime spent in 2023 on new games, more than half was spent in big annual sequels like the latest Madden or NBA game. 🖋️🤖

Indiana Jones doesn't "endorse" Nazis, Bethesda assure, just in case you were confused by him repeatedly murdering them

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle is a new video game from MachineGames. The game contains an explicit disclaimer that it is not Nazi propaganda. The disclaimer is designed to ensure compliance with Germany's qualified lifting of prohibitions on depictions of Nazis in video games. It's likely just the usual legal arse-covering, of course. Pushing Buttons: Is there even any point in making more powerful games consoles?

But something as momentous as the leap from 2D to 3D gaming in the late 90s? It’s been a long time since anything like that happened. The visual detail of games like God of War: Ragnarök and Horizon Forbidden West is astounding. Is it time to leave that fight behind “Games have come to a dead end,” he told Japanese outlet Mainichi Interactive in 2004. Relaxing and minimalist, this is a good lunchtime play on Steam Deck I am genuinely sad to see it go, as I was with gamesTM a few years ago. Let’s call this: “Motion Aiming” Shortly after, Nintendo released Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. until Nintendo decided to add a gyro sensor inside the controller You can jiggy the Sack-person’s booty via Motion Sensors In this mode, you can look around from Link's perspective, and motion aiming is back. One is moving the body, the other is aiming where you’re shooting. But, Breath of the Wild is where most people got introduced to Motion Aiming In the process, “Motion Aiming” got a new name: “Gyro Aiming” (also, ‘Intu-Aiming’ was merged). Future KEX Engine games after DOOM 64 added Gyro Aiming support ever since But The Last of Us kinda works but Aim Assist is in use, and Gyro Aiming doesn’t like Aim Assist 🖊️
