Some really promising additions here. I especially like the pedestrian roads, which hopefully means we will be able to build less car-centric cities this time around. Also the roundabouts look great.

I can’t believe we’re spending hundreds of millions on an arena to subsidize literal billionaires. Totally absurd

Would highly recommend not watching the history channel show of this unless you want to watch 20 minutes of recaps and “next ons” for every 5 minutes of content + unsubstantiated conspiracy theories about the knights Templar

Honestly I don’t think we will see much of a swing. The people who are fed up with it will move to platforms like this while the vast majority will remain on sites like Reddit or twitter. It’s the same with adblockers, most people don’t bother with them because they just don’t care. That said, I don’t see anything wrong with decentralized sites like lemmy staying on the smaller side, it draws less attention from the same people who have ruined the larger sites.

Watched the first couple episodes and got tired of waiting so I read the first book. Would recommend to anyone who’s enjoying the show, it’s pretty good

Fascinating to watch the internet get worse and worse in real time. It seems enshitification is inevitable for any big and centralized website

Pretty much any big sub is totally unusable. The only reason to be on Reddit is for the niche hobby subs

Exactly, narrow lanes mean they actually have to pay attention to what’s in front of them. Roads should be designed so people don’t feel comfortable going above the speed limit.

Fair warning, cycling in central Amsterdam is a total shitshow. There's tourists everywhere who have no idea how bike paths work, so you have to be paying close attention the whole time not to hit anyone. That said, I've been living in the Netherlands for the past few months and it has really been fantastic cycling everywhere, once you get out of the touristy old-town areas the infrastructure is just amazing. Enjoy your trip!

Tipping should be a 0%+ thing

Absolutely agree, I've been studying in Europe for the past few months and one of the best parts about going out to eat is having the price on the menu be exactly what you pay. No one expects you to tip. We should be including taxes in prices as well.

Exactly, I WISH the government would view these issues from an economic perspective, because that would mean actually helping these people and integrating them back into society

Yeah I would definitely go for the 2 15km hikes, someone might say they're ready for a 30k but then get into it and realize that they're in over their head. A 15k at least gives him an idea of what to expect
