well someone has to implement it somewhere on the stack. systemd seems like a good candidate ?

I'm so confused he adds a JSON field and corporate linux (who fund 95% of Linux development) need some sort of age auth mechanism for enterprise deployments. What do you guys want instead?

Like its not even enforceable, when the hardware attestation comes sure but before that why does anyone care (thats not going to stop you from changing a json field in systemd lmao)

It does but theirs a certain auth plugin/security setting they enable that only works with chrome

I think this just bases off Debian stable which makes it not too bad

Are any commonly used desktop distros debian based besides Ubuntu ? Ubuntu derivatives are not as they follow the latest upstream packages 1:1 usually iirc. Monjaro has its own dependency update schedule so it creates a new userspace dependency set to build against. If 10 distros follow the same thing we have 10 different timestamps of arch you have to build against.

Maybe my info is out of date, I just use arch & fedora.

We have arcades still ?

Soon we will have forks of arch forks and each one will have a completely different set of dependencies depending on when the owners decide to freeze the package. Then someone will use it and wonder why theirs so many bugs

They are talking about like internal quotas I believe? Like my friends company is limited to 1000 in spend per month while I have no cap and will blow through 2k in a week if I’m working long hours.

I use Linux for work and our company requires chrome to view Google Docs and such

I can't even feel superior to everyone when theirs so many arch installers!! I use real arch btw. I thought "I guess I should go to Gentoo" but then wait, CHROMEOS IS A GENTOO INSTALLER!

I feel like we only have two options now

  1. Ascend to BSD-land
  2. Ironically supporting Windows Unironically

edit: I have decided to replace my debian laptop with BSD

Active gets me a good amount of content with pre existing comments but alot of it days+ old. Active gets me newer stuff but most of it will never get a comment besides mine lol. Feel like I need something in between.

Are custom feeds planned to be a thing in Lemmy? Im guessing they would have to controlled by instance admin's since its their resources being spent. But would be cool to let users create their own feeds
