I doubt that there are less drunk bus or truck drivers.

This seems strange to me. Why do you doubt this? Even if bus / truck drivers drive drunk at the same rates as car drivers, there would be less drunk bus / truck drivers due to the numbers.

The absolute number is whats important because each drunk driver you add is extremely dangerous to society.

Also if society moved away from car driving, the loss in car vehicle miles traveled would not be compensated for by equal increases in truck / bus vehicle miles traveled because trucks and busses aggregate many trips together.

You're right, I was probably too harsh on the seatbelt point. If you have to be in a car, you should wear a seatbelt. But, the first line of defense is to not be in a car, and the second line of defense is to be on well-designed roads.

American cities lack these two lines of defense. This is probably why crashes are such a big problem here.

Also, 36,500 people were killed, and 4.5 million people were injured in the USA in 2019.

This report makes the mistake of blaming individuals for not wearing seatbelts and speeding, when a shift in urban design is necessary to mitigate this disaster.

That's probably why it's so expensive. I guess it's good to know that the loss of revenue is already baked into the cost of the project.

The concept of Chicago being super dangerous is a incorrect right wing meme.

It has half the violent crime rate of Memphis, for example. And that violence is highly concentrated in particular neighborhoods.

The article says they did:

Earlier in the pandemic, Chicago launched a program to give away 5,000 bikes to eligible Chicago residents by 2026.

We probably need to change from a gas tax to a function of weight and milage.

I'm not convinced. There's already plenty of choices for chrome reskins. I'd rather they make their search engine better. Maybe get independence from bing.
