There's a level of food sufficiency one can achieve on their own, even without land. e.g. I'm putting together a medium scale hydroponics system right now for home - it needs 100-120cm of wall, 30cm deep at its thickest point, and can grow about 120 separate spots.

Now obviously hydroponics is not an easy answer for all food needs. You can't easily grow wheat and other grains/cereals in the volume you'd need. You can't grow larger fruits that require trees. Smaller fruits - tomatoes, cucumbers, berries are usually pretty doable. And of course tons of herbs and spices - rocket/arugula, basil, mint, you name it.

If anything, the herbs alone are worth setting up a small home unit, especially since it's so effort-free - add water, measure nutrients, repeat once a week, harvest in 3-4 weeks earliest, trim it proper and freeze for long term storage, and you don't even need to re-plant things because most of what you'd grow in hydroponics, when trimmed right, just grows again.

Again, this doesn't solve all the issues, but having some freshly grown herbs at least is a good way to get started with "grow your own", even if on full scale it's impossible.

The absurdist/Dadaist era of AI was peak.

This current super-realism phase is just creepy because there's still a very tangible factor of uncanny valley in most pictures, but it's getting harder to tell precisely where that factor comes from...

If you're a millenial then practically every single porn site you would've visited "back in your day" would've had, at most, an "are you 18 or older?" popup as age verification...

Bold of you to assume that Facebook is not selling your data to Palantir to be recombined and re-sold...

While everyone is busy hating on Musk and the like, many forget that utter evil pieces of shit like Peter Thiel exist. Palantir is just the tip of the iceberg, he's been manipulating the entire digital ecosphere for nearly two decades now, with a well placed venture capitalist firm, grants for the "right" software and teams, while suffocating others....

Who woulda thunk?

The first Trump admin was all about building the basis for his continued "rule". At that point they were serious about "just" bending the framework of American law to allow him to be king (and be puppets from the background).

2020 was a bitchslap to this plan, so now they're going full on salted ground, destroying the federal government, with nobody standing in his way, just so he can rebuild his shitty fiefdom, fake gild and all, on top of the ruins.

Oh and it's not enough for him to ruin one country, if he can't have nice things nobody else can, so of course he's got to fuck everything up for everyone else because heavens forbid someone may enjoy the world more than him.

Dunno why, mate, the very people you've threatened with taking their independence from, for "strategic" reasons, now don't want to help you in a war you started completely unnecessarily? That's a real head scratcher...

And with that one simple move, you removed whatever little stability was left in the region

Congratulations, you're now responsible for the roughly Middle East shaped radioactive hole in the globe.

So we should celebrate that one of the cabinet is slightly less shitty because they can't be connected to child raping billionaires?

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 9 points 6 days ago

And those remarks are just the tip of the iceberg.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 3 points 6 days ago

Dunno I'm 30+ and can easily do that. But then again I prefer longer rounds anyway.

You're done after round 3? Amateur.

Not sure if this is the right spot to ask questions, as the sub info says nothing about them, but hopefully this is still considered relevant.

I am about to travel to my home country, Hungary, in a few weeks. Haven't been back in years, and there's one thing I really miss: horse sausage. This is a somewhat traditional dry sausage (closer to a salami really), made of 100% horse meat, from horses reared specifically this purpose.

Horse meat is not listed on any of the banned lists, and most articles related to the topic on gov.uk do specify that horses are NOT susceptible to FMD.

However most of the info related to the ban does begin with "you're not allowed to import meat and dairy products" before specifying the banned species list - again, horse meat is NOT included on these lists.

Overall the bans are quite confusingly worded and aren't straightforward.

There's also mention of commercial documents needed - but only for non-human-consumption meat products (e.g. dog food).

So my question is, ultimately, can I bring 3-4kg of this sausage into the country, and if yes, what paperwork would I need? Most EU certifications are out of the question as these sausages are made by small local farms who don't really label or package the products much since it's not meant for export. Some more commercial options do have the label, but only in Hungarian.

I have sent a message to gov.uk with the relevant page linked however I'm yet to hear back and given I'm about to travel... I'd like to have some definitive answers before I get some £50-60 worth of meat confiscated at the airport.

New Stargate show just got greenlit by Amazon.

Doesn't seem to be a reboot, doesn't seem to be screwing much with continuity, and all the big behind the scenes names from SG1/Atlantis/SGU are onboard: Brad Wright, Martin Gero, Joe Mallozzi. Furthermore the Devlin-Emmerich duo is also signed up as executive producers!
