Wow, that is a shocking number of moves. How heartbreaking. :(

This is probably a bit of a pessimistic take, but it feels like Google and some of the other search engines are already essentially giving you AI results in the form of the top content they display. For many searches, what you'll see are a variety of pages either written with AI or so heavily SEO-optimized that it's clear they're written to maximize ad revenue, not to help people find real answers. I think that sort of thing is inevitable with the monetization issues we have today, so I'm not sure what the answer is. Personally I don't ever use generative AI to give me a trustworthy answer. I think it's better employed for coming up with ideas or spurring creativity. Folks using it for fact checking should probably look elsewhere.
I do agree with you that a forum of answers from real people, something like Reddit became, is probably the ideal. And I think there are some industry-specific sites that achieve this reasonably well, like G2 for software and business reviews.
Edit: As an aside, information literacy is truly one of the great social problems of the day. For example, I can't count the number of times I've seen folks screenshot the blurb from Google that "answers" a question and use it to try to prove their point in an online argument. Yes, that works fine in some instances, but the reliance on that snippet is what's concerning to me.
It can be challenging and time-consuming to find real information, and the state of current search engines only exacerbates the problem.
Enough to cover my student loan balance and come up with a 20% downpayment for one of Canada's many, many overpriced homes.
I just want to stop owing the government money (my fault for owing it at all, I know) and getting fucked by landlords (not my fault, but feels impossible to escape).
I just switched away from my OP7P after several years of owning and loving it, and I do miss that pop up camera. You never had to worry you were going to take a selfie you weren't ready for. 😂
Writing this out is revealing to me that I probably order too much fast food. 🙈
- A&W, when I can make it there: Beyond Meat Teen Burger with fries and a root beer
- Harvey's (tied with A&W for Canada's best ff chain IMO): Original Burger with cheese, or Impossible Burger. Both are great!
- Taco Bell, back when I lived near one: chicken chalupas
Now that I no longer live close to those chains, it's basically just McDonald's when I want fast food. I typically get the 10 piece McNuggets with fries combo, and I give my spouse the pop :)
I'd never heard of this event before! Thanks for sharing. Looks like a great time :)
Sorry, I wasn't aware there was a new version at the time I posted. Much better now! :)
Wow! I just bookmarked this comment. THANK YOU for the amazing suggestions!
I've heard a lot about F:NV. Maybe it's finally time to give it a try!
I'm not familiar enough with this program to help beyond letting you know that it exists, but... US citizens who work in specific professions can take advantage of CUSMA: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/foreign-workers/international-free-trade-agreements/cusma.html
CUSMA work permits allow you to become a temporary resident. Once in Canada, you can apply for common-law or spousal sponsorship after living together for a year.
Or if you want to apply for permanent residence off the bat, look into the Federal Skilled Workers program (FSW) that's administered through Express Entry. If you have questions about FSW, let me know and I'm happy to provide some other resources you can look into.
Age of History is a turn-based strategy war game. It's an addictive way to kill a few hours, and you can customize your game modes quite a lot.
Tap Ninja is pretty good as far as idle games go.
I would love a DA:O remaster. It's one of my favourite games ever.
