I have settled into kasts. Thanks for the rec. :) It is simple but does the job. If my phone issues persist I will try the flatpack of cpod.
imaradio
it looks like a low-bs rss reader. nice!
- vocal: crash on opml import
- kasts: seems to work for downloading and playing. thanks!
- cpod: not working in aur: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/cpod
there is a stickied post from the mod asking if anyone knows how to do this. i would be very happy about it if it was done.
I agree that the clicking on the m505 (etc) is really great. And man, so are the buttons on the bottom. I have consistently had problems with mode/power buttons that are very stupidly implemented. It's a little detail that doesn't get advertised as a feature but make the experience so much nicer.
Every since I heard of twist to scroll I have thought it is an intriguing idea. Is it something that needs to be built into the hardware or could it be possible to add by software?
I would love some sort of horizontal scroll because I typically use a small display so I have need for scrolling often. I was trying to use input-remapper
to figure out adding complexity to the device. But for the most part nothing worked properly. Specific to scrolling, the only viable modifiers are right-click and middle click. Maybe someone with a better command of the software could make it work.
Also agree re kensington vs these other ones. When I purchased a device that cost well over $100 I was expecting it to be functional. I thought it would be like, I dunno, a thinkpad or something. Super disappointing. I know someone who has an Expert >10 years old and they love it. I guess they were good at some point.
Cool comparison! I like the ... 8? buttons on the HUGE. Are you able to use them all easily? I have a non-huge deft I don't find the tracking better and the scrollwheel SUCKS. In my whole life of using shitty $7 mice I never met such a bad scroller. Does it work normally on the huge model?
PS I read in a comment somewhere that the explorer patent expired and that is the reason for several clones becoming recently available. So perhaps there will be even more in the next few years and you find one that is perfect.
I think saw on one of the links I posted (IIRC the trackball.eu post) that the sanwa mouse it is supposedly very similar to has software to configure. Do you think it's possible that software would work? I am curious.
Also I found on quick search the following free software programs which claim to remap input devices in windows:
- randyrants/sharpkeys: SharpKeys is a utility that manages a Registry key that allows Windows to remap one key to any other key.
- AntiMicroX/antimicrox: Graphical program used to map keyboard buttons and mouse controls to a gamepad. Useful for playing games with no gamepad support.
And if you don't mind proprietary software there are a few others listed on alternativeto.com
It's funny you find it slippery. I found a previous trackball slippery but it had a completely different texture. If it is any hope, I stopped noticing it after a week or so.
Well just about every modern track ball has a wireless version and some (like this one) are only wireless. Not sure what naivite has to do with it but I guess other people have different usecases than you do. I use wireless because I like to go use a laptop somewhere like a couch or outside, and a wire gets in the way, and because my desktop is placed on a shelf above the desk. To use a wired mouse with desktop I have to run a USB extension. Also people use wireless pointing device with mobile, or TV or others. You can switch between multiple devices with the button so you can easily share if you want. And if you are using bluethooth you don't need to occupy a usb port, which are not unlimited.
That all said I would like it if more wired/wireless trackballs had the option of connecting via USB C cable instead of built-in cable, like how some keyboards are. That gives you the option of using a shorter or longer cable, makes switching devices easier because you can unplug at the mouse end rather than the computer end, thereby mitigating some of the reasons listed above for wireless. I loooove USB C kbs. Will never get a built in wired one again.
my thumb started to hurt after a few months of thumb trackball. I also found it more annoying for precision. With the larger-sized ball in this location I can use index middle and/or ring fingers. To me this is preferable. Other shapes like slimblade let the thumb do even less work.
OTOH if it aint broke dont fix it!
The tiny bearing do not inspire confidence in me. I am always picturing something a bit more substantial.
Yes this was the winner!
