No it wasn’t. MS was well behind at the time, and the market had settled on Google and Apple as the two mobile OS providers. The mistake would have been to keep going.
For real. AOSP is open source, and Google is taking more things private. MS could start driving AOSP since FOSS projects go where the group contributing the most wants it to go.

There are many Chromebooks with coreboot as well.
StarLabs StarLite is the closest device I’ve seen to those requirements. It’s a 12” x86 tablet without a cell modem or water resistance.
This is the answer for desktop Linux. Have NM create the drop in for systemd-resolved when the settings are changed. This is NM’s job.
Yeah, Flatpak was never meant to be a security mechanism. It is a convenient way to add security to userland though.
