lmao

We are a country that could not keep a demagogue from the White House; could not stop an insurrectionist mob from storming the Capitol; could not win (or at least avoid losing) a war against a morally and technologically retrograde enemy; cannot conquer a disease for which there are safe and effective vaccines; and cannot bring itself to trust the government, the news media, the scientific establishment, the police or any other institution meant to operate for the common good.

Every single one of these was a conscious decision (maybe except the losing the war).

I don't think he turned against China. Maybe I am wrong and he did. But he was opposed to it. Seemed very sad about it. He quoted a tweet of the news and only said 'why'.

It's about some pro-CPC Twitter user who lost his shit after China banned minor from sinking excessive number of hours into online games.

With that lineup I'll say even two elections is pushing it

Some workers say they have been forced to work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, including "suicide shifts" where there are only eight hours between the last shift worked and the next shift.

"When a co-worker collapsed and died, you had us move the body and put in another co-worker to keep the line going."

"While it's unclear what incident the associate may be referring to, we are aware of only two instances in the last five years in which an individual has experienced a medical emergency at the plant that unfortunately resulted in that individual passing away. In both cases, medical attention was initially provided at the plant and work ceased until the associates were safely on the way to the hospital."

Translation: "Only two people have died from working here in the las five years."

I thought there was at least some semblance of labor laws in the US but this looks super bad. Had no idea it was like this.

GitHub have created an AI that can write code. To train this AI, they used all the public code uploaded to GitHub (if the above screenshot is correct). This could be a GPL violation though I don't know the exact legalese.

If you are unaware, GPL is a software license which basically says that if my software is GPL licensed and you use it as a derivative to create something else, whatever you create should be GPL licensed too. For GPL licensed software, it is mandatory to share the source code with the users, so it could mean that GitHub is obligated to share the code used to create this AI since it used GPL licensed work.

There are other licenses other than GPL with similar caveats. I am using GPL as an example because it is one of the most prevalent of such licenses.

I wonder if somewhere I can read about how Coca Cola went from selling diabetes in a bottle to hiring death squads in South America to destroy labour movements.

I can comprehend something like this for, for example, an oil company or a rare mineral mining company because they deal in resources that are critical for the economy and global supply chains.

Meanwhile Coca Cola's products are pretty useless.

People in the article cannot understand just why this is happening. Meanwhile Marx and Engels wrote about this in 1800s.

But yeah the sheer amount of waste generation is staggering. I watched the video and spotted a few things I could use and I am pretty privileged already.

The headline makes it sound like someone pranked them (at least to me) but the reality is a bit different:

The family’s smart thermostat was installed a few years ago as part of a new home security package. Many smart thermostats can be enrolled in a program called "Smart Savers Texas." It's operated by a company called EnergyHub.

The agreement states that in exchange for an entry into sweepstakes, electric customers allow them to control their thermostats during periods of high energy demand. EnergyHub’s list of its clients include TXU Energy, CenterPoint and ERCOT.

Read another article where some people from management said they hire a bunch of people for the explicit purpose of firing them to meet this quota.
