I agree as I am one such case. I created an account like a year and a half ago and got so overwhelmed with it I just ignored it. Even the explainer I found was just too much. Finally a couple weeks ago I remembered it given all the Reddit is compromised stuff. I found my login info. I also happened to have had a gummy so I was in the right high mindset to just go down a rabbithole and finally figured it out. I still don't really understand how Lemmy interacts with like Mastodon or Pixelfed etc.

Man I'm worried about measles in the next year. All the health departments being gutted, I don't think we're going to have a good tracking system to know how far and wide it's going to spread. Big outbreak in Mexico that traces from the Texas outbreak. I am thankful that my immediate area is 95% vaccinated for MMR which should be good for herd immunity but there are a looooot of places these days that are below that. Kids don't deserve this and they will be the ones to suffer.

Pumped for The Last of Us 2 and Andor. Andor was perhaps my favorite TV show when it came out. So many Star Wars properties didn't seem to work for me but Andor was phenomenal. When I need some adrenaline, just gotta put on the Kino Loy jailbreak speech. One way out! One way out!

I approve of lump. Would like to touch belly but unsure of risk assessment.

Yes! My city's protest was a sight to behold. I will point out that these protests are just as much for the protestors as anything else. To be around so many people that gave a fuck was really energizing and hopeful. It pulls you out of your online ecosystem and reminds you that your neighbors care about you and you care about them. It builds momentum for the next protest and the next one and then more collective action. People are credibly talking about a general strike. Economic boycotts are starting to make a (small) dent. Our most effective tool is how we choose to spend our dollars and it's going to take a lot of sacrifice and be more uncomfortable than any of us are probably used to but yesterday showed a whole lot of people that they aren't alone.

Probably cause my eyes are bad. I thought I got it all in there. That's basically where it ends...or does it go on...infinitely???

Point of Infinity by Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto was installed on the top of Yerba Buena Island in 2023. It also acts as a sun dial! Pretty cool. Never spent much time on Yerba Buena or Treasure Island, but went on a clear day and the views were killer. Cool little restaurant called Mer-Sea was nice to have lunch at. Bizarre seeing all the new tall apartment complexes being built. Right on top of where I saw Justice at Treasure Island Music Fest...

Good glad to see some tangible numbers. I was a weekly Target shopper but haven't been since the economic blackout day. They were actually doing some cool things after 2020, selling a lot of products from Black-owned businesses. To see them do a 180 is a stark reminder.that they're just a business and $$$ is the name of the game. Gotta hit em all in the pocketbook, it's the only thing they listen to.

Whatup Yay Areaaaa. Been fiddling around on Lemmy and trying to understand the Fediverse. Feeling very old in the process, ha. I'm enjoying it for the most part. Though modern life has gotten me used to the firehose of content that comes at you on Reddit et al.

Super glad to call this place home. Life ain't normal but it does feel like we have this shell of insulation from immediate danger here. I mean, I'm not naive, a lot of the power and wealth is literally here fucking shit up but we've got a lot of good folks who care, so that's nice.

This year, I want to check out a Ballers game. Maybe road trip through the coastal redwoods. Focus on local action and community. Do garbage walks around the neighborhood. Whatcha getting up to? I mean in addition to surviving and whatnot. I wish you tasty tacos in your future.

Ok here's another question. How does this exist financially, who pays for servers and whatnot? Believe you me I am so glad not to be assaulted by ads and whatnot but isn't this expensive?

Thanks for the welcome wagon. This was the first post I clicked on. I feel like a boomer (I am not one) trying to understand the Fediverse even though I can understand how email works, somehow I can't apply that to how it works here. Like am I supposed to be able to see Mastadon or Pixelfed content on here? What would that look like? Ok also had some weed tincture so that probably has something to do with my confusion. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
