Have the communities been defederated?

I don't know if it's just about reddit partnering with Google. It's undeniable that years and years of enthusiasts having niche but public conversations about all manner of things makes it a gold mine for any search engine. People organically were adding "reddit" to their searches for years to find these conversations, way before it was a mechanism of avoiding garbage AI and SEO slop.
I still use reddit for this very reason. lemmy is great for me to learn about privacy, FOSS, and decentralization, but I have to use reddit to learn about Vermicomposting, which high quality leather boot I should invest in, and for niche subculture snark.
I've been helping some people bridge their Bluesky to mastodon by telling them that if/when they get pushed out of Bluesky due to enshittification, they will love having a mastodon presence already building. And if people use both, they can at least know there's a back up of all their posts (great if you know any comedians or political advocates who are upset when they lose jokes/posts after being harassed and banned).
Yeah. Is that just due to the small size of the user base, or does reddit hide posts you've already seen?
I would love a way of minimizing comments as you read them like on Reddit. It would make avoiding a long string of comments deviating from the topic much easier
I'm using the Sync mobile app. I should try another one just to see what's out there. Are you aware of any third party apps that can be used on desktop?
Counterpoint: There still is too little activity within communities that aren't tech related for me to say that it's the perfect size. I think we still need a good number of non-tech focused users here. Also, the jokes are stale, but reddit has that issue too.
I like this. I hope it starts conversations. Does anyone know if there are good alternatives to Discord?
If I am the average computer user with very little literacy when it comes to operating software, how do I go about switching from Windows to Linux? Is there a tutorial anyone recommends?
I was excited to see this article written on the verge but then I read it. Seems like they are only interested in what the fediverse can do now that Threads is getting in and sticking their foot in the door. It's likely they needed Meta as a corporation to validate federation as something with real potential. We need to be highly critical about the entities who just see this as another way to make money off our data
These are beautiful plants. When you water them, how much water comes out from the bottom and how fast does it happen? Ensuring you have good drainage is key for all plants. This one is probably just in need of brighter light to keep its pretty colors. It may start to look kind of weird until next warm season. I had one and it didn't make it through the winter inside. Maybe a light will help.
I only have 1 southern facing window and I currently have my bed up against that wall. May try to rearrange that room to out my big elephant ear and alocacia there.
I keep most of my pants on a multi level shelf by a west facing window with lights. They do ok but would love to find a set up to keep them warmer and better lit.
Nice
