@[email protected] The thing I find most striking about these railroad poles is that the lines themselves are so nearly straight -- there's almost no catenary curve to them

Always wondered why that was. Short spans? Stiff wires? Extra high tension? All three?

@[email protected] I do wonder, with the angles of the concrete at the top of the tower, if there was at least some consideration for the aesthetics of the structure

either way, this tower is dope as hell

@[email protected] It never ceases to amaze me how quickly we built and abandoned huge, wonder-of-the-world-scale infrastructure projects. We pulled twisted pairs of copper wire to the large majority of structures in the United States!

And then almost entirely walked away from it
