The worst part is that I know people that will use this regularly and also know people I'd be tempted to use it with because of their walls of text that I usually ignore.

After reading all the comments I think that what you need is a voice recorder, make entries Star Trek style and run the audio files through a transcription tool in bulk once a month or so. Or just keep them in audio format.

Yes and I see two reasonable reasons for that.
One is that, like in most communities, those that feel more compelled to post and comment are those that are more passionate about the topic and/or have more extreme views.
The other reason is that given the sensitive nature of the topic, without knowing the threat level of the reader I can see how one would be reluctant to go for the "good enough".
I guess Reddit is just one more of what they wish would be a standard.
