Happy birthday!

If you're not seeing the QR code image, something may be blocking it on your end (browser setting too strict, maybe an ad blocker, pihole gone rogue, who knows). It should look like this when you click the button down on the bottom left to begin setup:

The link at the top ("installation link") is oddly named, it's a totp://site:username?secret=xxxxxxx where the value of secret is the TOTP seed (secret key) you could manually cut & paste into an app (Bitwarden OTP, KeepassXC OTP, etc.) if you can't scan the image.

PSA edit: for anyone wondering (I did!) - this screenshot above is "safe", the offered TOTP secret changes on every load of your settings page and clicking that button. If you were thinking about scanning that image for ill gotten gains, it was invalid the minute I closed the Settings tab.

Sorry for the downtime! Unfortunately our secondary firewall took over for some reason, and haproxy failed to properly come up.

I’ll be scheduling a maintenance window in the next few days to do some further digging, so I can make sure this is fully resolved.

Nitrokey donated their hardware to Arch Developers a few years ago (a +1 in my book): https://www.nitrokey.com/news/2021/nitrokey-equips-arch-linux-developers-usb-keys

...sick of reddit kowtowing to billionaires interests

Welcome. If you're not aware, BlueSky is seeded by venture capital money and is generally under the ownership of billionaires; their "federation" is you optionally running a server that hosts your own (meta)data but the access to use that data (your content feed) still goes through one and only one website owned, operated and moderated by billionaires. They've already made it well known they intend on adding ads to their platform and have not yet worked out actual server federation. $0.02

I uploaded giga upon gigabytes of well-curated (tags, etc.) songs - the max was 400MB per file so you could just about fit a 1 hour DJ session into that as a single "song" as well. The desktop app was complete garbage but you could eventually get your entire MP3 collection uploaded as a massive recommendation seed for the engine to use "more like this!". Or put 30 songs into a playlist and then say "make me a radio station based on these 30 songs." and next thing you new you had a 500 long tracks playlist of similar music. sigh those were the good days.

Unfortunately it had a lot of internal track mis-labeling problems; a number of my saved playlists got destroyed when the conversion to YTM happened as the two services could not agree on what a given song was, so YTM thoughtfully made a mess of it. (as well as GM having songs YTM did not, so all those just disappeared too). This soured me on ever adopting YTM and pushed me back to Shoutcast/Icecast solutions.

South Texan here, a lot of names are "non-white" (Hispanic), I mean it's as common as water for anyone to have a Hispanic sounding last name anywhere San Antonio and further south - birth or marriage (and marriage is common, and there are a bajillion mixed-race people/kids here). This incident is taking place in probably the most southern part of Texas, literally miles from the Mexican border. The chances of Hispanic last names being 90% of the population goes up dramatically.

I instead suspect someone ratted them out, a rival or hater etc. and ICE saw a way to make a news headline for Trump propoganda.

Replacing any of the paid-for recommendation services is hard in my experience (I loved the Google Music recommendation engine, RIP). Anyways you sort of have two paths of travel to intertwine if you want to stay away from The Big Boys(tm):

(a) Find independent streaming sites like SomaFM, Big Sonic Heaven and DKFM ([1], amongst many others) which fit your genres as they routinely have "new tracks weekend" besides the broad exposure you get to hearing bands you've never heard as the volunteer DJs rotate their preferences. These are your old school original Shoutcast / Icecast streams run solely on donations, there are a lot of them out there for every genre.

(b) Look into something like https://audiomack.com/ - I don't use it (maybe I should!) but it "feels like" it might be a fit for your needs based on your OP details. Maybe not, at least give it a glance and see what's going on with it as it does look interesting. Something else might catch your eye at: https://bandcampalternative.com/

My main issue with Organic Maps is how bad the night mode map view is. They've effectively just turned the background black without adjusting street colors; so all the main orange/gold main roads have no contrast and disappear into the blackness. I'm sadly forced to keep it in Day mode just so it can be read and used, regardless of time of day. :-/

Not all TLDs (gTLDs, ccTLDs) are available at all registrars, so I use a mixture of NameSilo, Porkbun and Zone.eu (zone.ee same thing). Zone.eu/.ee is like "the Porkbun of EU" (kinda, not really) and they have some of the cheapest registrations for EU ccTLDs. If a ccTLD requires proof of identity if you're a foreigner, Zone accepts a verified PayPal account as sufficient documentation.

Given this is programming.dev, run a git forge (Forgejo, Gitea, Gogs, etc.) - for a single user (or even a small group) you don't need to worry about a full DB engine, the builtin sqlite works just fine on a $5 cloud server. You could even work it into your blog posts on the same domain. $0.02! (and you could have your repos sync read-only to more popular services like Codeberg, Gihub, Gitlab etc. it's a built in capability).

Context: I'm of an age where AARP sends me snail mail to join; play a lot (too much?) of Destiny and the game sort of has a rep for being extremely toxic. Destiny 2 has hit a low spot so I wanted to try something new, mix it up.

Picked up Titanfall 2 from the PlayStation store on sale ($10?), played the short campaign then started jumping into classic Co-op (4 players defend a doohickey against 5 waves of AI enemies)...

...and it's full of little kids on mic laughing and giggling (and playing way better than me) just having fun. Super refreshing and makes me smile, I wouldn't call this a kid's game either. So yeah, good times for an old gamer.

Social networking startup and X competitor Bluesky is working on subscriptions. The company first announced plans to develop a new revenue stream based on the subscription model when detailing its $15 million Series A back in October. Now, mockups teasing the upcoming Bluesky subscription, along with a list of possible features, have been published to Bluesky’s GitHub.

Liberapay is a popular platform run with similar ethos as the overall Open Source world and has many projects (including Lemmy devs themselves) participating:

Ko-Fi and Github are for-profit entities, I would like to request adding a true open donation platform which itself survives on donations using the platform.

Thanks for your consideration.
