A new study has found a dramatic increase in levels of microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) in human brains in recent years.

MNPs have previously been detected in human lungs, intestine, bone marrow and placenta. In the new study, researchers took one tissue sample from the brain, kidney and liver of 80 people autopsied in 2016 and 2024. They also sampled the brains of 12 people who died with Alzheimer’s or dementia within that period.

The researchers found that brain and liver samples from 2024 had considerably higher MNP concentrations compared with those in 2016. Brain samples showed a 50% increase during the eight years.

The use of third parties, rather than the Israeli military, at the central checkpoint in Gaza was reportedly a compromise in the agreement. A representative for UG Solutions told The Washington Post that their mandate is to allow people to go through the checkpoint, and only stop them when they “carry anything deemed unsafe” — but it’s unclear what that means, and Israel has long banned simple necessities from entering Gaza, including items like food, claiming that they can be used by armed Palestinian forces.

"Under this ceasefire agreement, there is supposed to be a mechanism in place for medical evacuations. We've still not seen that process spelled out," said Thaer Ahmad, an emergency room doctor from Chicago, who worked in Gaza in January 2024.

More than 1,100 dead olive ridley turtles have washed ashore on the beaches of Tamil Nadu state in southern India this month. Most were found near the state capital, Chennai. “I never heard [of] such large numbers of turtles stranded at any beaches of Tamil Nadu at least in the last three decades,” K. Sivakumar, an ecology professor at Pondicherry University, told Mongabay.

Prime Minister François Bayrou sparked outrage from the opposition, and indignation from his allies, when he referred to a feeling taking root in France of being “flooded” by immigration. The prime minister was accused of citing the "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory that has fuelled the far right for decades.

No-Buy 2025? (www.huffpost.com)

Eliminate the pressure to spend money on things you don’t actually value by considering whether purchases you’re making are adding real worth to your life.

If you want to have a no-spend or low-spend 2025, remember you don’t have to embark on this journey alone.

Establish why you want to do a no-spend or low-spend goal.

“Customize the challenge to fit you and what you want to accomplish. You don’t have to go all-or-nothing,”

“Identify and eliminate spending triggers,” Woroch advised. “This could look like deleting shopping apps on your phone, unsubscribing from retail newsletters, and avoiding walking into stores where there are sure to be plenty of spending temptations.”

In the two months since the Israel-Hezbollah truce began, Israeli forces have killed at least 83 people.

Since the beginning of the conflict on October 8, 2023, to November 26, 2024, Israeli forces killed at least 3,961 people across Lebanon and injured at least 16,520.

Under the ceasefire, the Israeli army was supposed to withdraw from Lebanon at 02:00 GMT on Sunday.

However, Israel stated that its forces would remain in southern Lebanon past the deadline,

As displaced people tried to return to their homes on Sunday, at least 24 people were shot and killed.

Deadline extended until February 18

I'm sure you're right about the people you mention, but they are not the ones I had in mind.

So, just to clarify, I was talking about everyday common people, like the young ones that are mentioned in the relevant article I linked above.

China’s Real Estate Crisis: Why the Younger Generation Is Not Buying Houses Anymore

Between skyrocketing home prices, the housing market debt default crisis, and a shifting culture, China’s younger generation is facing a vastly different housing market than their parents.

“The end of China’s property bubble is more likely to lead to a slow grind downwards rather than a sudden collapse,”

I suppose this is a possibility. For many years now western media have been talking about a Lehman brothers moment but the liquidation of Evergrande in January 2024 - to my understanding - didn't create this effect on the markets. I guess if it had, we would have heard about it by now.

For people, the results of this real estate crisis are devastating, regardless. (relevant article)

Yes, that's more or less my understanding as well.

Also, I'd like to add part of a transcript of a podcast that talks both about Sudan and Palestine in an honest way, to contrast the deceitful take of the posted article.

Breaking Down Sudan’s Struggle: What the World Is Missing

I mean, the war in Sudan precedes the genocide in Gaza by six months, and we didn’t get much coverage then. I think in fact, the movement in solidarity with Palestinians has opened up the space for people to want to know more about Sudan.

the author is suggesting that there are two different policies

The author describes the israeli apartheid in a deceitful way, which is very different to what you say. This is not an article that wants to draw attention to the Uyghur. It just tries to deflect the conversation from the Palestinian Genocide to something else.

Please see an article by Amnesty International from 2022, meaning before the current Genocide: Israel’s apartheid against Palestinians: a cruel system of domination and a crime against humanity

A few more of the plenty deceitful aspects in this article are bellow:

The United States has tried to pressure China’s leadership to end the Uyghurs’ mistreatment—for instance, by barring companies from importing products that originate in Xinjiang into the U.S.

Talking about these imports is one thing. Why not also talk about the US arm exports that kills Palestinian civilians? Regardless of the Leahy Law.

Israel was formed by Jews

No, it was created by Zionists, not Jews. These two words are not interchangeable. There are many Jews who oppose Zionism (please see Jewish Voice for Peace)

Israel, from this viewpoint, is an outgrowth of European colonialism; it represses and displaces a local people,

There is a word for these people: Palestinians.

Also, represses and displaces a local people? If past tense was used, this sentence would have some merit. Since it uses present tense, I can only say: this is not how I would describe a Genocide.

Sorry but whataboutism has its limits.

Also, from the posted article:

The Israelis keep the Palestinians something of a people apart

Is this how we describe apartheid now?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Israel was formed by Jews who saw the region as their historical homeland and who were fleeing persecution, pogroms, and the Holocaust in Europe, and persecution throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

Nope. Israel was formed by Zionists, and Zionism has been criticized by Jews since it's inception.

Please see:

Jewish Voice for Peace - Our Approach to Zionism

Jewish Voice for Peace is guided by a vision of justice, equality and freedom for all people. We unequivocally oppose Zionism because it is counter to those ideals.

Scary thing to have this post, so heavily downvoted in a feminist community.

Just to note that this title and subtitle seem quite misleading, even tho it is clarified in the article itself that it's a first for the Carpathian basin and the timeframe of the 10th century. I noticed this happening for many other outlets as well, if not most. Still, thanks OP for sharing this, good to know!

For the 10th century there is at least this one more that is well known for years now:

Birka grave Bj 581 held a female Viking warrior buried with weapons during the 10th century in Birka, Sweden.

Similar burial sites through time and all over the world:

Maybe I should have mentioned that geothermal is a great sustainable and renewable source of energy (wiki)

Also, I'm a bit confused with the source you linked because it is about geoengineering which I believe is a terrible approach (see links bellow) but this site kinda presents geothermal as part of it. Geothermal energy production is not related to geoengineering/climate engineering, in any way.

I was not aware of this documentary, so after seeing this post yesterday, I watched it.

On one hand, I found it to be a bit superficial but I wouldn't go as far as calling it bourgeois biased.

On the other hand, in 40 min which is its duration, I don't think that they could go much deeper than an broad introduction of this community. I mean, of course it could be 40 min deep dive on the topic. Still, I find it's important for videos that can easily be watched by people who are not into anarchy or politics in general, to exist, as introductions.

Btw here is the link to watch it.

I have an issue with this youtuber due to a transphobic video they posted some time ago, so personally, I don't watch this channel's videos anymore.

The picture is certainly AI generated and it is mentioned just bellow it.

For the text not so sure because - to my knowledge - AI detectors are notoriously famous for their bias against non-native english speakers/writers, which is the case for this outlet.
