This community is for discussion of dead communities and the planning of reviving them.

What should a post/comment look like?

A post ideally would be mentioning that community, what value it could contribute to the fediverse, how much dedication it would take and approximately how many mods there should be, and a call for volunteers.

A comment should be a suggestion, correction or volunteering.

What is a dead community?

A community which all mods are inactive for more than 3 months, and the modlog has had no activity for the same time.

Please ping all the admins in the comments too, this is necessary.

Rules

The rules are very simple.

  1. All posts must be about a dead community. Meta posts should be marked [META]
  2. Be nice.

At courtesy of @[email protected] (thank you!), an archive of unmoderated communities has been created, including just recently adopted communities.

I'd like to compile a megalist of all these communities, and eventually categorize them later on. Feel free to create a post on any of these communities that you are interested in.

PS: Should we just paste the wiki here, or keep it on a separate page?

Real life issues mean I can’t mod as much as I used to unfortunately, I’m looking to transfer ownership to a few pages. If anyone knows the steps or is willing to get things going then message me and lemme know.

I got Half Life that could use some moderation, alongside Lost Media, MAME, and a few others. Most are on my profile and I'm not sure the procedure for doing this with a bunch of pages but if I need to send more I can do that. I also have more on another instance like VoidBunnies though I'm still not fully sure how to deal with cross instance communities like that.

So not sure the process on transferring communities across Lemmy but since some unforseen issues mean I can't mod as much, I'm looking to transfer ownership. If anyone knows the steps or is willing to get things going then message me and lemme know.

I'm also willing to do that with all the ones I got but UpliftingNews is the biggest one and I don't know how many I can send at once.

I would not like to mod this community but i will open this thread for all who are interested.

It's been inactive (modlog n all mods) for a year.

I'd say it only needs 1-2 mods, since it's quite low maintenance. I'd assume there wouldn't be a lot of traction for such a small niche.

To all that are interested, start organizing with each other down below on taking the community.
