I’m in the market for a new audio solution for the living room. I just got a new Samsung tv so I’m wondering if I should pair it with the Q990c or can I save a buck and go down the product line for a cheaper one and not be sad about it? Should I just jump brands and look at LG, etc? I was focusing on Samsung because of the ‘Q sync’ that wil also use the TV speaker and that i would have to think it’ll be easy to setup with it all being the same brand.

Main requirements are it has to work easily from the same remote that the tv has (Samsung solar cell universal remote). I’ll be in deep trouble if it’s not simple to use…

We bought a house that came with a Circa 2015 epson projector. I’ve setup a modern Yamaha home theater with surround sound. I’m having trouble connecting audio. The projector only has one hdmi going from it. I’ve connected that into both the Mac and to the receiver. Both times I get video but either choppy audio or no audio. I tried audio Jack from Mac to receiver but only got front speakers and no surround sound. I’ve read that using toslink or hdmi splitter/audio extractor might help. I’m at a loss. I’d rather not have to add another cable from projector as it’s mounted way high up in vaulted ceilings and cables are routed thru ceiling and nigh impossible to access. Any help is appreciated

I am reading all sorts of conflicting information regarding how Denon/Audyssey and it's cheap microphone doesn't really help. I guess I've always been suckered into the marketing jazz thinking the XT will really help. To be honest, I've never really setup any AVR w/o it so I am not even sure where to start. Are there any resources on how to configure Denon w/o Audyssey so I can compare?

I have a Marantz 1402 with a 3.1 setup for my bedroom. If I decide not to use the microphone for room correction, are there any recommended settings? Do I just 'guess' on how far I am from the L/R/C channels?

I want to get 14 gauge but ghostwire doesn't go any bigger than 16 and I have to mount two of my four surrounds on the wall behind me so I'd like to say least have ghost wire going down the wall. Then I'll just use regular cable under cable runners to go from behind the couch, along the floor boards to the receiver.

I installed bass shakers this week onto my couch and they sounded/felt good while testing with music. I gave it the first movie test tonight, but during the loudest moments and explosions, they would cut out for a few seconds until the worst was over then continue working with the subsequent rumbling.

I have two Dayton BST-300EX connected to a Fosi TB10D with the stock 32v 5A supply. Is this what clipping is? Do I need to try it with a different amp or a better power supply?

Thanks!

If I want to use a powered subwoofer with speaker level and LFE inputs for both multichannel digital sources and analog records, do I plug in both? I want to listen to records on Pure Direct mode on my Denon receiver, but that doesn't output subwoofer information.

I have Klipsch speakers that I am thinking of replacing with KEF and I’m wondering if anyone has thoughts about whether the KEFs would be better or less harsh with a Sony STR DN-1080.

Klipsch Centre RC500 to KEF Q250C

Klipsch L/R RB600 to KEF Q350

Thinking of pulling the trigger but thought I’d ask here first.

Thanks!

Hi All,

I currently use 4 Polk OWM3 speakers for Atmos and they work ok, the only issue is that aesthetically they are sticking out the roof and best buy drilled small square holes to ensure they could be wired without issue. See picture below with holes.

I was suggested to replace them with in ceiling speakers to cover up the holes.

Questions:

  1. Is it worth it to replace the speakers with in ceiling speakers

  2. If yes, which in ceiling speakers is worth it? I have seen everything from

Micca M-8C (cheap) to other more expensive ones like Klipsch CDT-5800-C II Polk RC60I

Thanks

This is probably a dumbass question but I’m wondering what kind of impact I should expect coming from a Sony STR DN1080 to the Onkyo NR1700 with Dirac Live. My speakers are entry level Sony’s and my current set up sounds great. Will there be a noticeable difference with this new receiver? Thanks

Hello all,

Got my first HT system semi-setup

AVR: Denon AVR-S760H

L/R: (2) Klipsch RP-8000F

C: Klipsch RP-450C

Wow, there are a lot of settings for the AVR. Any suggestions for where to get started? What sound mode should I be on? Should the speakers be on large since I don’t have a sub? Any gain for the speakers?

Thank you all in advance

I just moved and have always dreamed of setting up a home theater, so I'm starting from scratch with a Denon AVR 760H receiver I have.

For financial reasons, and for wife reasons, I'm going to slowly build my sound system. With my current receiver, I want to power a center channel and a front left+front right.

A couple months down the road I'll invest in a cool subwoofer ($500-700), and probably will value it being compact. A year from then, I'll install 4 matching in-walls on far left/far right, and rear left/rear right. Finally I'll put in 4 matching in-ceiling speakers and upgrade my receiver. For now I getting the front side ready.

I found a set of Paradigm Premier 600c center and matching 500B bookshelves from eBay in my budget. I need help choosing between that and just buying new Monoprice Monolith 365c with either Encore B5s or 265Bs. I cannot wait for them to be in stock, no worries there.

The room is 12 ft wide and 19 ft deep, With the longest dimension spanning from the couch and projector to the 120" screen. We listen to a lot of music, and I prefer a more flat response. The room will be used for gaming as much as TV/movies.

I do not care about resale value, and the inconvenience of returning via eBay is negligible.

I'm replacing my soundbar with an AV receiver - the Sony STR-DH790 - but I cannot get ARC to work and produce sound. How do I get ARC to actually work for sound?

My soundbar was previously connected by ARC to the TV and worked perfectly - both the TV's control of the soundbar (power on/off and volume) and the audio channel worked.

With this AVR, the TV correctly turns the AVR on/off, controls volume, and controls muting. It even sends other commands (like arrow buttons). But no audio plays.

Right now, the setup is this:

Apple TV (4K) <---> TV <--(arc)--> AVR

In this setup

  • The AppleTV can turn on/off the whole system
  • The AppleTV remote successfully controls the AVR volume (so the whole chain of control is working)
  • When the TV is set to use its speakers, sound comes out of its speakers
  • When the TV is set to use the AVR for audio (via ARC), all three controls can control the volume of the AVR (the AVR's control, the AppleTV's control, and the TV's control), but no audio comes out. The volume indicator on the AVR itself does go up and down when the other controls' volumes are used, but still no sound.
  • HDMI control AND EARC are enabled on the AVR and on the TV (and, again, I used to use ARC for audio on the TV). I've also tried other combinations and cycling things on/off.
  • The speakers do work (tested using FM radio, and also the next section)

I also tested this configuration:

TV <---> AVR <---> AppleTV

In this setup, I got audio from the AppleTV though the AVR's speakers (though the 4K HDR signal was never successfully passed; for many reasons I have no intention of using this setup).

So how do I get it to actually listen to the audio over ARC?

Some notes:

  • AVR firmware is current (1.171)
  • HDMI 2.0 cable is connecting TV's ARC port to the AVR's ARC port
  • TV model number: Samsung UN65MU800D

I'm looking at Hisense U7 series or Sony X85. Used for sports, games, and any soul sucking shows you find on Lifetime or TLC.

My home theater set up is going into my basement area that is below my sunken living room. This makes my ceiling down there only 7 feet tall.

Should I mount my debut 2.0 a4.2 foot atmos speakers on the wall pointed to my viewing position? Or is up-firing ideal for this ceiling height? I looked at Dolby atmos documentation and they lean towards anything 7.5 and below is great for upfiring.

Some more context:

  • My viewing position is 8 feet from my tv.
  • debut 2.0 6.2 bookshelf speakers
  • uni-fi 2.0 center speaker
  • rsl speedwoofer MKii that I am desperately waiting to be back in stock so I can order it

Hi all,

I would like to play my mkv back ups on my Dolby Vision TV with hdmi 2.1 through direct connection to an HDD.

Does the Zidoo and similar devices do anything that my Mac Mini could not? Would the image/colors/scaling, etc. Be better with Zidoo?

Thank you for your input!

What is the best 55” 4K Smart TV for a lounge. One that does it all so you don’t need to buy accessories like speakers etc. Won’t be used for gaming just watching sports, movies, casual television. Budget is around £1000 but willing to pay a few hundred more.

Hi all,

Has anyone made any experience with the Loewe Klang soundsystem - consisting of the bar5, sub5, some mr1's as rears and optional mr3/5's as front speakers. See here:

Unfortunately, I cannot find any reliable reviews or comparisons with other systems - neither on the web, nor on youtube.

Any feedback much appreciated!
