I have a yamaha rx v383 which supports 4k connected to a ultra short throw. With Chromecast 4k as an HDMI input, the picture will jitter lets say once every 5-10 seconds so it's not a perfect smooth playing picture. When playing video without Avr directly from the ust the picture doesn't jitter.

I'm unsure if the Avr is defective, lacks some kind of technical specs support, or is it normal?

My only question that I can’t seem to find is can you search for a tv show/movie and Apple TV tells you where you can stream it? Probably my favorite thing about firestick is search for a movie, like say wedding crashes, and firestick will tell you to rent:but it price, along with which apps are you can currently stream it on. Does Apple TV do this?

Hey all, as the title suggests - I'm currently using the Samsung Q950C surround system with my 120" laser projector system. A bit of reading in these forums has suggested I should be upgrading to proper speakers.

So I am looking through the used market to find something that will be a decent upgrade to my current system without spending a packet.

I was wondering if either of the following are worth checking out at all?

  1. JENSEN 2x QX-35 Floor speakers, 2x QX-15 Wall/Rear speakers, 1x QX-65 Sound bar, and 1x QX-85 sub woofer $500 aud (about $320 USD)

I've read in some reviews that the front surrounds aren't so amazing for imaging

  1. WHARFEDALE SW150 sub - 2x Atlantic 400-SE Front Surround - The centre and rear are wharfedale as well, but the ad didn't specify model (but they appear to be from identical range design of front surrounds) - I've messaged asking for more details to be sure. - $500AUD (about $320USD)

Would these still sound better than my half arsed "high end" sound bar surround? I always find I don't hear much at all from the rear speakers in current set up, makes me wonder how useful having 5.1 vs 3.1 really is.

If neither of these options very good, any advice for what I should be keeping an eye out for?

EDIT: ALTERNATIVELY - I already own Wharfedale EVO 4.2 speakrs which I Love but rarely use as I tend to go wtih my Focal Clear headphones in my office when working - I could get a better quality centre speaker to go with them for great 3.1... But the EVO centre to match is pricier than I'd like ot spend on just one speaker... Thoughts?

So I have an Xbox Series X, Onkyo HT-R398, and a BenQ TH690ST, all of which are capable of and support at least 1080p, 120hz

However whenever I try to turn on 120 on my Xbox it just won't display anything on my projector. It works fine if the Xbox is connected directly to the display, but not when running thru my AVR

Any ideas?

New to the game. Picked up a X1800H for cheap. I like the KEF Q Series () but am scratching my head trying to understand what this AVR can actually power properly.

I'm shooting for:

  • Front: Left, Center and Right
  • Rear: Left, Right
  • 2 atmos speakers (got as a gift)
  • 1 sub

I like the sound, price and look of the KEF Q series. Can this AVR handle all speakers in this series. Or will it actually only work with certain ones well -or- even a certain combination of ones?

I have a Epson EH-TW7300 projector, which is connected to a Onkyo TX-NR686 AVR, where the Apple TV and other devices are hooked up.

I often stream music via airplay to the apple TV, while the projector is off. This did always work fine and still does.

Often I will eventually turn on the projector to watch something on the apple TV. This has not been an issue before, the apple TV would still stream the music and greet me with a screensaver.

However since a recent Apple TV update (supposidly) when I turn on the project, I am greeted with a HDCP error from my Onky AVR, saying that the format is not supported. I still hear the music and sound of the apple TV, but i am unable to recover from this state. Rarely, I did manage to recover, but most of the time, i need to pull the power from the apple TV to recover. Turning off and on again the AVR does NOT help.

Any idea how to permanently fix this?

Repost from r/Soundbars

I have been looking to purchase an atmos surround sound for my dedicated theater room specifically to watch movies. Ideally a dedicated AV + speakers setup would likely work best and is a longer term goal that I don't have the time to facilitate right now. I did utilize the .edu discount to purchase the Q990c sound bar, but I am trying to identify if it is even possible to use dolby atmos with my Epson 3800 projector. Based on other reddit reports/web search my options are:

  1. Connect my streaming stick directly to the soundbar. (does this achieve atmos?)
  2. Purchase a HDFury Arcana device to connect between soundbar and projector
  3. Return the soundbar and pursue AV/speaker options

Any guidance would be appreciated!

Hello everyone, I have a question in terms of AVR durability. I have SR5003 which according to manual can handle 8 ohm and 6 ohm speakers. And I have Triangle Borea BR08 speakers which are certified as 8 ohm speakers but in quite wide area of freq are dipping down to even 3 ohm. So far I have noticed that after long listen Marantz os a little hot. I don't know if it is too hot for what is called standard.

My worries are if this configuration can harm AVR or speakers?. Is it only harmful at high volume?

Should I look for amp that can take 4 ohm speakers like e.g. Marantz SR5009?

So I've run into a unique problem after purchasing an older Sr5200 to play music at home that came without a remote.

In order to enter the setup menu the procedure is to 1. Click the AMP button on the remote, then press the OSD/Menu button afterward, which takes you to the speaker config menu on the Avr front panel.

So I thought, easy just need to use an android ir remote app and we off to the races. We were not. I tried many apps but all suffered the same issue. The volume and power would work and many other functions but the menu button would not.

After some research I found the hex codes for the Sr5200, it actually uses a different menu command or way to access it compared to just about any of their other products.

I found the hex for the menu/osd button, loaded that into Irplus but the reciever would only turn the osd on or off, never go into the setup menu. I noticed that the hex code for osd on and osd/Menu are exactly the same. Which leads me to believe that when the Amp button on the actual remote is pressed it changes the way it sends the code from the osd/menu button in some way to activate its second function.

So here are my sources if you want to confirm what I'm saying. Anyone know a way around this? How did the universal remotes of the day navigate this challenge? Help appreciated, but do have a replacement remote on its way but will probably be a month until it arrives.

The marantz ir hex DB you can see all the commands supported by the SR5200 in colulm bb, and the command im reffering to is in row 28.

And then here is the manual, on page 11 the outline the procedure and on 7 describe the button.

Loving the sound of the reciever though, but I know it's got more power to give once a adjust some settings.

It seems like I should be able to just play a Blu-ray file from my PC and receive similar quality to a Blu Ray player. Like, a high quality .mkv file sent through the best HDMI cable.

I've downloaded and enabled Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, although I'm not sure if VLC supports Atmos.

The quality is pretty good, but I have a feeling I could improve the picture or sound somehow.

Full blu Ray file -> VLC -> Atmos enabled with Windows -> highest quality HDMI cord

My speakers are pre wired for 5.1. I only have 1 speaker wire (r/b/w/g) first going to L speaker and then to L surround speaker. How do I connect this wire to the speakers? The Center wire also has r/b/w/g.

Does this sound right? L surround w(+)/g —> L w(+), r(+)/g,b —> r,b to receiver L and w,g to receiver Surround L. For the left speaker I would combine the w,r…

I'm getting myself a 5.2.2 surround sound system. I'd say I use it 50% for movies and 50% for gaming. I love the design of Klipsch and I know most people will say that you don't need to buy the same brand for your speakers, but that's what I want. My room is 14' x 12'. I was looking for :

  • Denon S760H
  • RP-121SW (1 sub)
  • RP-8000F (2 towers)
  • RP-500S (2 rears)
  • CTD5800CII (2 ceiling)

In terms of power capabilities, should I get cheaper models since my room is relatively small? Like, is it overkill and I could get cheaper models without noticing the differences?

Is it a good setup for movies and gaming?

Is the receiver good enough for the speakers?

Should I get 2 subwoofers or it's useless in this situation?

Is there another brand, cheaper and better, that does subwoofers, tower speakers, rear speakers and ceiling speakers? It has to be a brand that is available in Canada.

Thanks in advance!
