Nick actively chose to undergo this transformation. He can make his own choices about what videos to produce. His audience may have rewarded his poor habits with views, but they, ultimately, are not to blame for his life choices.

But surely a system where someone is rewarded with "fame" and money for destroying their health isn't a good system.

Sure, it's not exactly great that he seems to get views for this sort of obscenity. However, the system rewards many types of videos encompassing a wide berth of topics and styles.

In any case, it behooves one to hold values besides fame and money.

It does but the way YouTube algorithms work there will always be more rewards for those racing to the bottom.

The exploitation is being done by YouTube. The audience is also being exploited. Take a look at the people who make billions, not the content creators who, on average, make pennies.

YouTube's algorithm is designed to hook you in so you never stop watching. Viewers are definitely "exploited".
