I am trying my luck once again with Super Mario Land 2 - Six Golden Coins. So far I never managed to beat it. It has savegames, and in theory plenty of opportunity to gain extra lives, but something about the slippery movement of Mario rubs me the wrong way. I like the Wario games much more. And even though I haven’t beaten Sonic on the GameGear either, I came further to the finish line.

Mario is in a jelly level. Coins at the top.

Star Zone boss is my personal nemesis. I just can’t seem to beat him. I will have to farm some lives soon…

Finally made it. All six golden coins are mine. And: I have a deja vu of the final level. Good grief this is terrible!

The portal now has six golden coins inserted an will open up!

I tried the Wario Castle a few times, but failed. I am not in the mood to practice it more. So I am now looking at some of the secret levels.
The Space Zone secret level is relatively easy to reach. But as usual you have to go through this every time you want to play it.

The zone map changed and now the cartoon moon has a shooting star stuck in his forehead and he’s looking grumpy.

@[email protected] I think the final level may be appropriately difficult but the rest of the game before it didn't scale up to it. Because the player can start anywhere, each world seems equally difficult rather than slowly increasing. I don't know how it could have been done, but it needed some sort of scaling mechanic to ratchet up the difficulty as worlds were completed.
