What do you carry on a daily basis?

I was the kind of intelligence soldier who ran around the battlefield taking notes and reporting information. Not nearly that simple, but I can't begin to tell you how many lives a high quality pen saved. There aren't exactly stationary stores in the desert when you need to write down some grid coordinates on a sweaty hand.

I have about a half dozen of these, but I’ve carried the same exact one into the field daily for a year and a half without losing it. It fills out my daily inspection and goes in my pocket. Vital.

I used Fisher space pens partly because of their function and my job and partly because I'm a space nerd (Intel soldiers for the win). I think I used the rite in the rain writing pads though. A normal notepad in my pocket would get soaked through with sweat and be useless. Hell I would sweat through my body armor. The tools I used to be effective were the wartime stationary supplies and essentially advanced email.
