A third one leaves the fold: Richard Dawkins resigns from the Freedom from Religion Foundation

Scientific skepticism or rational skepticism, sometimes referred to as skeptical inquiry, is a position in which one questions the veracity of claims lacking empirical evidence.

Oh no!
Wait, they are quitting because they can't accept non-binary gender? Fuck 'em then.
The article by Kat Grant that simply points out that gender is more complex than binary.
The Jerry Coyne response that is the one which misconstrues Kat's article as conflating sex and gender (which it didn't) and was taken down by the FFRF, partially because it contains a bunch of stupid and false stereotypes like this.
Good riddance.
Yea, yet another reminder that Dawkins isn't worth listening too. The trash taking itself out if you will
He's like Bill Maher. They both started off opposing religion and being vocal about that was extremely important at the time. But over the years they have leaned into their own personal shitty views which has outweighed their original benefit to the movement.
When both Maher and Dawkins have always been deeply uncurious. At least as long as they've been public figures. Like any right wing talking head. I have the answers, you are an idiot.
It's my perception, at least, that once people give up on curiosity it's an inevitable slide to bigotry. I think religion does that to a lot of people, but I think it's an atheistic masturbatory fantasy that this is exclusive to religion.
Dawkins suffers from something a lot of my dad's professor colleagues (and even my dad, to a lesser extent than some) suffered from- Believing that having a doctorate means you're an expert on everything.
Dawkins is a scientist, though, and, supposedly, a skeptic. Yet, here he is with his biases leading him by the nose. Fluid gender identity has always been a thing with plenty of documented evidence across many cultures going back, at least, hundreds of years if not thousands.
Yeah, Dawkins is refusing to accept scientific knowledge because it contradicts his personal opinions.
Yes, and black's commit more crime in America. Because they get thrown in jail more often than whites. Wait...
"What about black-on-black crime?"
"You mean they've been segregated into racial enclaves where they've been artificially impoverished for a few generations now, so the criminals have more access to other black people than any white people?"
LiberalGunNut™ here! Reminds me of gun nuts defending the stats. Yes, a little less than half are suicides, like those don't matter. The rest of the killings are largely gang violence, like those don't matter.
Very easy to read between the lines.
The suicide thing really bothers me. "They would have committed suicide anyway" is what I have heard, which is incredibly callous and impossible to know. Certainly having something that can kill you instantly without any sort of preparation makes it a hell of a lot easier to act on suicidal impulses.
(I am indifferent about guns overall.)
to be clear I think the point of contention with them is non-binary sex.
That is because they are limiting 'woman' to being based on sex.
