And? Was it such a high price to pay for his country salvation? It's not a book about good and evil. There are real lives at stake. Zelensky's honor is not notre important than any soldier's life.
So you think it's ok for a country to be invaded, and attacked...and it should just roll over and enslave itself?
Invasion has already happened. As a country leader he has an obligation to minimize negative impact. Even at the cost of "kissing the ring."
Kissing the ring is not what was going on here. Trump is trying to force a deal that doesn't do shit for Ukraine but strip them of future income to rebuild.
The invasion is still happening, and it will continue to happen no matter what trump does, because trump is putins lapdog.
Bending the knee to putin is maximizing the negative impact.
You're either a russian troll or an idiot. The freeworld is on Zelenskys, and trump just showed the world that the USA is no longer on the side of democracy or freedom.
Nope. Zelensky was the first one suggesting the deal in October last year. See here point number 4 https://www.president.gov.ua/en/news/plan-peremogi-skladayetsya-z-pyati-punktiv-i-troh-tayemnih-d-93857
The second part of his visit was to discuss guarantees behind the closed doors. Which is why he was trying to steer the discussion towards that topic. He just did it so hamfistedly that Vance and Trump took it as a personal attack. Any half assed politician especially on international arena could have avoided that. It's all it was: failed negotiation. The fact that people see some kind of inspiration behind this failure is just pathetic misread of the situation
You want Zelenskyy to sell out his country to putins lapdog and kiss the ring. Shameful
Wtf are you talking about? Zelensky was the first one to offer to sell his mineral rights in October. Trump just took him up on the offer. Behind the closed doors they had full opportunity to discuss guarantees. Instead we have this bs.
Sell yes, meaning Ukraine gets something in return...
But Trump goes "ok give us the minerals, bye".
What kind of deal is that, Ukraine gets nothing, that's not even a proper business transaction...
Thats plain saying give me your money or the guy with the gun takes it from you.
In a real deal the least Zelensky/Ukraine expects to get in return is full and lasting protection against Putin walzing in and taking Ukraine anyway.
In his WW3 rant Trump also seems to forget Zelensky/Ukraine is already at war (though putin is the one calling it a 3 day police action), and the only one gambling for WW3 is Trump by whining about demanding minerals for nothing in return.
Ofcourse it's full on clear by now Trump expects Putin to walz in anyway, destroy Ukraine and pay Trump personally a 1% finders fee for the minerals.
The discussion of the security guarantees was to happen behind closed doors after the initial press conference. In fact that's why Zelensky was trying to steer the conversation in that direction to prime the next stage. It's just that he failed so completely in this steering that it should be in textbooks. Simply having an interpreter would be enough to iron out the edges.
He could have walked away with a deal today. Maybe even with NATO invite in 20 years or something like that. Instead because of his political ineptitudes he risks to lose it all.
The deal is not important, nor are the minerals, Zelensky was there for security guarantees and they should not be hidden, what kind of nonsense is that. Why shouldn't anyone hear of security guarantees?
Trump should have shaken Zelensky's hands, in public LOUDLY proclaiming full and lasting protection and NATO membership or NATO boots on the ground. Make explicitly sure everyone knows Trump and the US supports and backs an ally that is invaded by a centuries old enemy.
And THEN do a deal for minerals behind the curtains, THAT is the way to do it.
Why should it be like this? Because you think so? The deal most likely was to be finalized behind closed doors and then announced at the final conference. The fact that the meeting was happening at all means that the deal was mostly agreed upon already using envoys or whoever. This was probably just to dot the i. And... Zelensky couldn't manage to even do that.
