The Evil Dead (1981)

I snuck watched it without my dad knowing. I remember it had me creeped out for weeks, still one of my favourites to revisit though.

How about your guys? How old werw you when you started watching?

Probably doesn't count as horror for most, but when I was 6 or 7, my step-dad let me watch Terminator 1.

That shit traumatized me for years... the stop-motion scenes, Arnie cutting out his eye..

Terminator 1 definitely counts as a horror movie. It's basically a slasher movie with the unrelenting machine coming to kill someone, but has a pretty cool backstory. Better than "oh he drowned in the lake".
