I’ve seen “Elbows Up” a few times today, always in relation to the tariffs. What does it mean?

It also means attacking while defending. So when you’ve been slammed against the boards in hockey by another player, they will slam headfirst and at full speed into a stationary pointed elbow in the face. So they wreck themselves as they attack you.

It’s a perfect metaphor for the US’s attacks on Canada.

Originally from hockey legend Gordie Howe. He was famous for using his elbows aggressively, among other things.

It's been recently adopted by Canadians as a rallying slogan against American economic warfare.
